I think the pet deposit is a joke. Just a way to make money off the driver. I don't smoke. never have. during training they asked if I wanted a smoker or non smoker trainer. once I was finished with him they gave me a truck that had been smoked and looked at me like I was nutts for asking for one that had never been smoked in. Smokers are not charged a deposit. My dog is house broken. Then 1cpm taken from check because of idling. Pass any truck with an overweight smoker inside and see if his trucks not idling. It's a rip off for a driver that wants a pet to keep him or her company while away from home. I don't care how you look at it. Okay to smoke and no penalty but want a pet pay the price.
Con-way Truckload Not what I thougth it would be. Stay off there payroll

I'm sure that your a responsible pet owner, you carry a baggie with you to clean up the poo, and your pet is clean and doesn't eat the interior of the truck, but it is what it is.
Actually, just being the devils advocate, I have dogs, they don't ride with me. Don't smoke either.
Don't you get the 1 cent a mile they deducted back at each quarter if your fuel mileage meets the average? That should be a wash.
Oh yeah, why does it have to be a overweight smoker that is idling, can't it be any smoker, or anybody for that matter.
If used that logic, why do I have to pay the same insurance premiums as a over weight person, a smoker, somebody that uses alcohol. Why am I penalized. -
You shouldn't have to call, you shouldn't have to stay on folks, but they are a outfit, and its easy to get lost in the shuffle.
Sometimes you need to be the squeaky wheel.
IF your Fleet Manager is taking care of you, Call higher up the food chain, present facts, not emotions, and be tactful. Sometimes that's what it takes.
Call the V.P. of Ops, sometimes that gains results.
Here is a quote from a magazine article that I just read about driver retention, your welcome to throw it on them.
"Do something about Customers who abuse your Drivers. Drivers will soon be harder to find than Customers." -
I am a clean person. Truck was new when I got it and still just as clean. I have a portable vac that I use every other day. I have a very well trained pet. Now with that being said I have seen the inside of many of these trucks that I'm speaking about. Trash on the dash, food on the floor, piss jug, ashes and grease all over. I don't get it I do the same job as the next guy or girl and they live like pigs in a company truck. A one size fits all policy isn't fair to someone like myself that actually take care of the company truck. The first truck they made me take had been smoke in. And like the other guy said about his eyes swollen shut well that's how I am to smoke, my sinus's closed up, nose bleeds and headaches buy again no fee's for the pigs smoking and trashing company property. My truck was sent in for detailing and I was told it would remove the smell of the smoke. What a joke that is. If Joplin can't vacuum out dog hair do you really think the kids working in the shop smoking themselves will be able to remove smoke from a truck. Everybody at Joplin terminal smokes. Why are drivers allowed to smoke in the drivers lounge in Joplin but not any other terminal. If you shower upstairs the smokers lounge is on the other side of the wall smoke pours into the airvents in that shower area. All I'm saying is I don't think its a fair policy that smokers don't have to pay A penny but a clean pet owner does. As far as the 1cent they take. I bet they will move numbers around to show your MPG's were to low for a return. Once they get your money your not getting it back.

I have made some phone calls. They really drag there feet though. Everything for drivers is hurry hurry hurry. Then I wait and wait and wait for them. I think our dispatch should become something like avaitions dispatch system. It takes two people for the aircraft to depart. The pilot and the dispatcher. they both must communicate on the times and the numbers. They work well together. Trucking seems to be the opposite. Crews can login to computers to find trips. Why can trucking companies not do this. First in first out would still apply. Once logged in you could see all the freight within a pre-determined area. DH over 100 miles must be approved through dispatch. All trips left unassigned would then be assigned to surrounding drivers. Forced dispatch would only apply to those drivers who hadn't picked up a trip. Drivers wouldn't be able to pick up another trip until theyve arrived at first trip. This would allow all drivers to become more productive because they would want to hurry up and get there. If you don't have the hours to pickup the trip you would be blocked until hours are restored. That is exactly the way pilots and flight attendants do it. Their DOT work rules are basically the same as ours in trucking. 14 on duty. Up to 16 during weather. 1 day off every 7 days or 24 hour break. Just like we are only paid when truck is rolling they are only paid when plane is flying. Per deim all other times.

Call Herb and see what he has to say about your issues.
I've cornered more than one CEO in the past and am sure I will again in the future. -
I only worry that I may cut my own throat so to speak. Very unsure of there so called open door. That why I hide here. I have left a message on his voicemail not sure if he really gets those.

Every pet owner I ever met thinks they have the cleanest pets in the world. They get so used to the fowl smell they don't don't even smell it and wonder why you are gagging from it.
It's hard enough cleaning up after a nasty driver, then you add pets? Nope pets belong at home running in the yard -
And a fat trucker smoking, ######## and pissing in a company truck should be put out on the street. My new truck is as clean as the day I got it. I think the company expects that of me. My pet is cleaned more often than most truckers. Again one size doesn't fit all anymore.
