Find a big empty lot and just practice, see how far you can back in a straight line and practice backing in circles.
When you get to the point you can back 2 or 3 circles without having to stop and straighten out some you'll have it whipped. It's not rocket science.

thanks guys lots of good points in there. I don't care if people try to harass me on the radio trying to push me faster, its my cdl not theirs. If there in that big of a hurry they should've planned better. I pay close attention to both front and rear constantly, i guess really it is the swing im most worried about. I'll keep practicing and if i have to hit a real tight spot ill slide the tandems. I find myself getting better, even today I could see in my mind more whats going to happen as i maneuver. Guess ill just keep being patient and cautious. Thanx everyone.

JustSonny Thanks this.

I was about to ask if you had tandems or a spread axle, cause with a spread the dump valve would come into play. Id say more about GOAL, practice and being patient but everyone else already has. THIS IS WHY THIS FORUM IS GREAT, THREADS LIKE THIS!
-
Yep, GOAL, practice, good ideas.
I've got two words to say to impatient loosers that give ya a hard time, "SCREW YOU"!!!! If they're in so big of a hurry, maybe they should waddle on out and give a guy a hand.
Now maybe something that might help you out. Along with what everyone else has said, one of the things to keep in mind is that tailswing, I know, I know, it was already mentioned. Listen up now. Try to keep your tandems in the same few holes, 10-13 on the last sliders I had. Your tailswing will be more consistent like that. With my 5th wheel always in the same hole, and that range on the tandems, I usually could scale any load, right turns become more consistent, and so will the hinge pointe on the trailer. There may be times when you need to go one side or the other, but not a whole lot, unless you're going to the left coast.
Relax driver, some days are better than others, and sometimes it goes the other way. It happens to all of us. -
Yeah I forgot about spread axles. I just saw one last week in my car. It was a narrow county chipseal road so I was paying more attention to the pedestrians and only had about a second to "rubberneck" but it appeared as if he had torn his front trailer axle off the frame exiting a farmer's driveway, turning sharply with a heavy tractor on his trailer.

Ive been driving for almost 2 years now and I still have plenty of room for improvement. Usually once every a week I end up saying to myself' "Well I wont do that again." Ive come to realize in this career its an ever evolving learning process. lol.

When ya stop learning, it's time to stay home! -
My motto after a dozen years is "Easy over close".
Especially when it's dark. I'll always look for a two-or-greater-wide spot, just to decrease my chances for error. Did so this morning around 5, at the Pilot in Beaverdam, OH. I don't care....heck, I need the exercise anyway (other than my usual "making mountains out of molehills" workout!).
Good luck!!JustSonny Thanks this. -
