Exactly. "Adventure is not in the guidebook and beauty is not on the map. Seek and ye shall find." If I could have found a way to work that quote into my book it would be there.
A misconception I had regarding "Seeing the Country"

I'm a new driver (2 weeks) and right now I'm pretty happy sightseeing from the cab of my truck. I rarely had the chance to go anywhere before my trucking job. Getting to see st louis, san diego, LA, hell even laredo is an experience for me. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon. I doubt even being the big boy I am I could easily get my zuke dr650 on and off my catwalk but if I could I would be out riding on my breaks. Maybe a nice mountain bike eventually.
zebcohobo Thanks this. -
I could walk 5 miles if I wanted to, I could jog 10, no problem. It isn't about the exercise (I happen to be in good shape). It's about the safety of it. Go ahead, keep walking around in areas you don't know.

If you're scared just say you're scared.

Not scared, not stupid either. You have to use some common sense out there, something not everyone has.truckerdave1970 Thanks this.

Walking around in strange territory is not stupid if you're properly prepared. If you look and act like a victim you may very well end up one. Being aware of your surroundings goes a long way toward staying safe. No, it's not for everyone that's for sure. The uninitiated would do well to stay in their truck. You're right, common sense is surely lacking.

I'm not a trucker yet but I agree about wondering around in a city where I know nothing. Country I wouldn't care. Part of why I want to be a trucker is because I have never been anywhere besides Texas. Mostly Houston/south east Texas. Make me wonder if I should seek training from a company during winter since I think I have driven once when it was icy and that was this year. Good luck and stay safe.

My other half has taken to calling me sightseer because this last OTR stint I did with Calex I had some time to actually get out of the truck and enjoy myself some. Nashville, Universal Studios come to mind. Not to mention just pulling off for some random spot I'd see on a billboard. Bought an awesome pair cowboy boots at Horsetown in GA. I have a good friend in the tour industy and when he's out on tour we keep tabs on each other. Hoping to land in a city he's in for a show. Always something to do or see, you just need to figure out how to do it.

Flock of Seagulls are playing in Vegas.
I know a lot of you would stop to see that show.
Vegas is an easy town to see with a truck though. You can park behind Palace Station off Sahara for free and you're pretty close to the strip.
I've been to the beach a few times since I started driving. One upside to doing produce in CA. -
If there's one thing I remember about Vegas (before I was driving a truck), It's that the parking lots are HUGE out there. I remember driving through a back lot at one of the casinos and it looked like they paved half of the desert for parking. I wish my company would send me out west, they have me stuck on these crappy NorthEast runs. I've seen enough of Newark NJ to last me a lifetime. I think Vegas would be a good spot if you had to do a "34".DirtyBob Thanks this.
