My set of wide base tires have lasted for 5 1/2 yrs with 316,000 miles, still have 1/4-3/8" left. I've NEVER had a set of dual tires last this long and wear as evenly.
Unless you have truly experienced the difference, your spewing your opinion based on pure worthless speculation.
It kind of reminds me of the people that walk up and say " What if you get a flat?" I respond, what if you get hit by a meteorite ? Are you going to live in a cave all your life for fear of something that may or may not happen ?![]()

When you get a flat - it will cost you more than you will ever save by using them. Same with irregular wear, so common on singles, most big fleets are coming back to duals. Just another advertisement bubble thrown at test-rats - that is what S-Singles were all about

I agree with Starline. You should get at least 1/2 mpg increase in fuel economy... if you get a good set of tires. XDN2s have a horrible rolling resistance - if you're going with Michelin the X1 Energy series has the lowest rolling resistance. I certainly have seen a great difference with them, have never had traction problems on snow, and as long as you maintain proper tire pressure or don't hit any road debris you won't have a problem with blowouts. And frankly, I will not go back to duals under any circumstance.
Keep in mind that if you are hammerin' down the road at 75 mpg, the value of wide single tires is lost due to heating - but if you're running slower, you'll get great mileage.Coyote2trucking and Sumothertrucker Thank this. -
Sorry if this is a stupid question but would you see an increase in fuel mileage if you kept duals on the tractor and put singles on the trailer???
-
How long did you run wide-base singles?
-
Yup. That also has been my experience. I was seeing about .4 to .6 mpg increase with my old tractor and newer trailers with wide singles. Just make sure you have a low rolling resistance on those tires - 100 or less would be my preference.

super singles are sensitive on depressions on the road ( caused by trucks) and when super single goes on this part of road lot of troubles on wear and tear of tire and feeling while you drive
i am for super singles on trailers and twin on drive axles
or ..... twin on drive super singles on tag and trailer axles
does american law require ESP and TPM for trucks with super singles? -

I think in the right application single tires would be ok. I haul livestock and I would never run them, mainly because I can't afford to take the chance of being down on the side of the road with live cargo in the trailer because of a flat tire. There has been a few times I've had to limp to my destination with a flat tire because it was either the middle of the night or middle of nowhere and getting a tire fixed was not a possibilty. If I hauled something that wasn't time sensitive and was in an area that was populated I'd have no problem giving singles a try.
