My husband worked for AutoTruck out of Springfield, OH. Most of the people he worked with get laid off quite often. My husband quit after having to have surgery on his thyroid. He called in and let them know he was not going to return to work for them. Now he is trying to change jobs and they said they fired him. Yeah right. He got a new job with another trucking company in August 2006 and they fired him in December 2006. Something is haywire with their thinking.

Yes you have to provide your own tools and suitcases. In the 8 months he was there we had to buy 6 suitcases (airlines are rough on them), 3 impact wrenches (airlines are rough on them), and clothes & tools (airline lost them).

My husband liked it except the flying and losing a day or day and half due to waiting on a flight.

Pretty much exact thing happened to me. I worked out of Springfield, got laid off took another job. They call me to come back to work, I told them I had other employment and wouldn't be returning. Later I found out that they had listed on my DAC that I had been Terminated IE Fired.

I was looking into the Transport industry, but after reading all the negative posts I'm thinking of going another direction. Are there any reputable Transport Companies out there where you can actually make some money?????

Well I see ATT is hiring down in my area, are they still having troubles between the Union and the company?

Any update on this company? They are hiring in my area, and I'm mildly interested...not interested in working for a company that doesn't have their stuff together, though. I don't want to be trained by someone with less than 3 years experience doing this.

I've been with ATT for almost 7 years. I wouldn't do anything else. It'll take a year for you to understand how to make decent money. But no cost health and retirement to you. It has it's down areas and being down on the seniority list will get you screwed for a while but we all started at the bottom. The guy who lives in huntington, i live in cross lanes off the dog track exit and I keep my vehicle parked at the terminal in NC. Just PM or post and I'll answer questions you might have.

I'm in my 9th year with ATT. I would leave in a minute if I could get something local and be home most nights and earn something decent. The benefits and pension are the only reasons I'm staying for the moment. Otherwise, this is a truly incredible situation.

    My observations.

Strangers showing up pretending to be ATT line employees. A large number were brought in during the 2005-2006 period when we attempted to vote in the IBT over the IAM. These people were used to great effect at intimidating those who didn't know better and were the ones who probably swayed (and voted in) the election. They were all gone right after the election.

Some of these same 'strangers' are showing up again singing the same song. When confronted they state that we are mistaken and they are brand new employees. Some of these 'newly hired strangers' are actually being used to train new employees! Something is up. Are these 'strangers' going to be used to vote out union representation?

We consistently voted against the last two contracts, including the 'give back' contracts. They were enacted anyway by an 'overwhelming positive vote'.:biggrin_25523:

Much race and sexual oritentation 'friction'.

This job has alot going for it:

    Very good benefits

    Drive new trucks every trip

    Stay in hotels every night

    Paywise:

Old timers reported that $60 - $70 was normal during the late '90s. Only $45 - $50 is doable anymore if you stay gone most of the time. My best year was 2005: $50k. Made $45k last year.

Give it a shot if you dare. At one time you had to know someone to get a job in this industry but now the turnover is as bad or worse than the TL freight companies.
