Was making what this company starts you out at in 98.
At the real inflation rate you would have to be starting out around .47 per mile to equal the buying power I had making the same cents per mile over a decade ago.
It is utter lunacy to defend most any of these OTR carriers as being good to their drivers.
I often wonder how bad some of these drivers must of had it. When they come here saying how well paid they are working for outfits who have been giving them pay cuts every year after 3 or 4 years for their loyal service.
You can go to any local gov website and find out what the avg pay is for different occupations in your area.
A longtime OTR veteran at first fleet is making what someone with a 2 year degree from a community college can make starting out. And they make it in 40 and not 70.
I am all for hard work but life is short, unless you have no life. Why work 70 hrs to get what you can make in 40? OTR is truly a lifestyle choice, not a professional one any more.
driver beware of first fleet inc

I worked for First Fleet for over 4 years and I have been driving for 30 years. First Fleet is one of the worst companies now to drive for. They have lost alot of their customers then making it hard for drivers to get miles. They lost alot of good drivers. A lot of office politics.

I work at the Portland,TN. terminal and have been really observing how the operation works. I would have to say, not a bad operation. It is a great operation if you are on the "favorites list". When the runs are called in the mornings, I keep getting the shorter runs. I have asked about other runs and get an answer similar to " These are the ones for you". They boast a first in/first out system.

Illegal alien truckers will work for 10 cents a mile. And yes American employers love to exploit these dumb people. Our employers wallets get fatter when these people work for less because they dont want medical, retirement, just enough for tortillas. They live in a house that holds 7 familys.Americans want all jobs,We just want a livable wage...Mexico feed your poeple so we wont have too! Oh call em home To...

Aside from Sidewinder1's true experience, and true numbers (yes, I believe him, and have no reason not to)---this is the best thing I have seen posted on this thread:
Just because a thread was started in the "Report Bad" forum...dosen't mean that the thread can't have a different point of view.
Sidewinder1, has posted in a "genuine" fasion....does not come off as an office plant, and quite frankly, has peaked my interest.
Living where I live....FirstFleet has several regular customers/accounts in my area, and were I ready to jump ship on my current gig....would, no doubt, be my first choice.
1). There is VERY LITTLE to 'no' negative feedback on FirstFleet from what I can see. And what IS out there as negative, is disgruntled "hear-say", that can and should be taken with a grain of salt.
2). Their customer base, and reputation (in my area for the most part), can no doubt afford me decent miles and home time (my two top complaints with the industry). And their sheer size and finacial stability, can and would offer some decent benefits at minimal cost to me.
3). The original poster said this in early 2008:
Being in the industry as long as I have....and reading/participating on boards like this for as long as I have....it is not hard for me to tell who is disgrunteled and spewing, over who is genuine and helpful.
Thank you Sidewinder1 for being the latter.Last edited: Sep 27, 2011
