TFBS,
How would you recommend evaluating safstat reports they at times seem to be confusinig to determine at least for someone with little experience. I did not go badk to make sure of what I saw but it seemed driver fatigue was a lot of log HOS violations, and then Equipment deficiencies and when I read some of the reports on accidents drivers weren't given citations on most of them. I have found few comments good or bad except for post about truck lease which I am not interested in anyway. I am a new driver and am in the process of making decisions about who I will send applications too, and from whats been told to me I'm interested, we will be H/W team, and we liked the way training was as it was explained to us, and the whole package as it was explained.
However the safstat makes me wonder if drivers are left holding a bag of goods when they come to a situation where they are asked to deliver a load that has to be there now because they are 1st available, even though there HOS left will mean they have no choice but to violate the 11/14 or 7/70 or the equipment may have some type of problem that should be fixed 1st.
If a drivers put into a situation where he feels like he's gonna just get the violation and suffer with it or get poor real short loads all the time or maybe be let go, especially a new driver with only a few months experience, he may never get another job.
Please understand I'm not trying to stir up a mess just trying to figure it all out, from what we have been told and read mostly this company really interests us even more than the company's we have already applied. We are not really looking for a "starter" company to work for for a year and start looking for a better company, better job. Realizing you don't start at the top we're looking for that company that we can progress on our merit not just how long we've been there.
Sorry for being so lengthy, thanks for you're input

There are a lot of great companies out there with a lot of information to process. I have always had more drive toward smaller companies because they get to know you and your driving style better than the Mega-Carriers. Try to change your telephone plan with At&t or your email plan with aol, and you'll find why smaller companies are the best of the choices available. When someone 1000 miles away is deciding on your money and hometime, I would rather know that the dispatcher "knows" me, and doesn't need a number to address me by. Keep your head up and use Colonial as your measuring guide.... see how others compare. They are a very tough company to get hired on to, so if you got approved for Colonial.... congratulations!

from reading thier website they pay 91-93cpm based on hhg miles meaning you loose 12-20%. You'll go broke in a hurry at those rates.

just got a call from them - never considered leasing before (am a 16 year company driver). Not sure I'm ready to take the risk of running someone elses truck that I have to pay the bills for. 91cpm seems to just about cover the cost of operating the truck but fuel surcharge is 55cpm and that sounds pretty decent as a wage (say $1400 a week minus reefer fuel, lumper and health insurance and after tax take home should still be in the $900 week neighborhood).
