The lifetime avg has already went up from 4.7 to 4.71 after 800miles, so at this rate I should be able to gain a tenth of a mpg every 8k until I get to the engines limit.

I didn't get 7mpg very often and when I did I had to watch everything like a hawk, which is something I don't like to do all the time.

I've never pulled anything other than a bullrack, but I've had other people tell me that they pull harder than other trailers. If I can average 5mpg I'll be happy.

So what factors separate "real" world mpg from "other than" real world mpg?

APU usage supplied from main engine tanks?

    Idle time?

You guys with ECMs can deduct idle percentage from gallons used (as a percentage) to calculate actual running mpg.

My APU is gasoline so that doesn't factor for me.

1996 Fr8linR hood w/3406C, .73 OD, 3.90 gears, tall rubber, open flatbed, running between 50 & 65 mph using as little boost as possible except to pull hills, avg. 6.8 mpg. Mpg extremes range between 5.4 and 8.25 depending on RFP (right foot pressure).

I'm getting 35 l/100 km, or I believe it is a 6.4 MPG on my volvo pulling tridem heater trailer with 27 tons of load( gross 97-105 000 pounds) over the rockies. Lot of hills.

    01 Volvo, Cummins ISX 500 hp, 13 speed, 3.90 , tall rubber. Cruising around 110 km/h.

'05 Frlt Columbia. MBE 4000, automated 10 speed (10th is O/D) and 3.91 rears. I mix mothballs in my fuel (napthalene), have a K&N high flow air filter, Turbo 3000 and an Aircell unit. At 52 MPH with the trans locked in manual mode, 8 to 8.2 mpg with heavy loads, under good conditions. With light loads or empty, 9.2 to 11.2 mpg's- again, under good conditions. In the worst conditions, just under 5 mpg's.

To give an update on the MicroBlue micro-polishing and coating that has my August Fuel Mileage Average out of the 8 mpg range and into the 9 mpg range.

My fill ups for 3 dedicated runs was:
    April 3rd : 9.21 mpg
    April 9th : 9.26 mpg
    April 12th : 9.34 mpg

with one wild run with light trailers:
    April 6th : 10.02 mpg

So far in August have filled up 4 times using 528 gallons running 5,018 miles netted 9.50 mpg average for August so far.

Still looking at going to Super Singles and having the tranny MicroBlued to hopefully gain even more mpgs.

    The Challenger Thanks this.

I read an article somewhere about wheel bearing failures on trucks converted to super singles after they get some mileage. Newer axle housings on factory equipped super singles have been engineered to fix this problem. Might be worth looking into.
