Jim and Celtic thats some great info and much appreciated. Starting a new career at 37 yrs old can be tough but I'm looking forward to it. If you guys don't mind, how dificult is thier academy ? Are they instructers focused on making sure the student learns everything they can without pushing them out the door ?

I have a load of questions but may wait until I get set with a trainer since I'm sure I'll get some answered while in school.

:biggrin_25524: Okay i have a couple more quistion's since i havent seen it yet on here , what are the guidlines for theft, like let's say your truck get's broken into, and they take your radio and few things from the back, then second quistion, while in there they tear up the truck and smash the e-log machine , smash the dash, does the driver pay for these damages or do they have something like renter ins you can buy thru payroll for that and fineally after all that, do they send you with anthor driver to get anthor truck or make you sit there ,while yours getting fixed and third , once back at base , will they sit you down and say your fired for that, i really dont need too hear that after 4 months of on the job, and then it looks like your job hopping again and i dont want that on my rec and will that go on my dac report , becuse i'm a hard worker and likes too run and unload my trl , thank's for all the great advice so far :biggrin_25525:

My wife and I drove for them and so far they have been the best company we have ever worked for. The have great equipment. As far as DM's well that's just going to depend on who you get. They probably have a hundred or so dispatchers. Over all you shouldn't have a problem. I personally believe Central is a very well rounded company. Not to big not to small. You can pm me if you want to know any specifics or check out the Central thread.

There really isn't much to the training. You learn about the h.o.s. logs, how to read a map, etc. The written CDL exam is really easy too.. you only need 80% to pass and you can retake it once a day. Our entire class of 20 passed it on the first try except 1. The training book is about as thick as a magazine and you only need to read certain sections. I could have done it in a day.

The instructors are great, especially when you get behind the wheel. The skills tests are what you need to be concerned with. Backing and doing a pre-trip inspection are what flunked 2-3 people, but they work with you. The company doesn't want to spend all that money just to watch you fail.

That being said, you're not there to fool around. Class or training is 7am-5pm everyday and if you have time after hours you should be reading through the training book.

Nope, trailers are all smooth inside so you gotta use their load bars. You need to put a $120 deposit on their lock kit too. Of course, the deposits are refundable when you leave if you turn the equpiment back in, or if you lose it you buy it.

What I'd do is get their dumb lock kit but just never use it. That way you never risk losing the padlock or something.. and just use your old padlock on the trailer. If you lose your old one, you got one to fall back on.

Hmm no idea on that. I would imagine Central has insurance on their trucks and equipment to cover break-ins, not sure if that would cover your personal property though. There is rental insurance available but you'd have to arrange that on your own. The only thing central does is a legal plan that you can get on if you want to help you fight tickets and stuff.

Well the truck is your home and basically where you will spend most of your time at. SInce just about everything go it belongs to You they would not know what all was go it if it gets stolen. Just gotto be careful. SInce it is your home you would not leave it unlocked while in most places for an extended amount of time. If they break in and damage and still stuff I sure it would be like if it happened to your actual home. The truck I bet is insured but not your stuff since they lease the trucks for three years. NOw anything get stolen talk to cops.

What gets me is your asking about this like you expect it to happen or something. With how much you will be in your truck I doubt it would happen and how long it would take someone to trash and destroy the inside well maybe a company would wonder why you left it parked unattended for such a long period of time.

:biggrin_25524: Hi, okay i worked for jb hunt, i just got home and was a 1500 mile trip too boulder colrado, so they let me stop at my house for my rest break, in des moines, iowa, theres a k-mart lot right behind my house well light, and i had permission too park there, but during the course of the night they broke the vent window, and got in i had the police report i had it fax them asp, they told me too keep going with the load and had it fixed at freightline when i came back thru, of which i did , this set the company back $500.00 for that little window, my western shirts only thing they took and all my roads maps i been collecting at the rest areas, i just wanted a small soviener were ive been, guess not,, but they took that outa my pay, so it dosnt have too sit long for a breakin, it was just matter of id say 5 hours for them too hit me and everydriver here knows how too break in thru that side glass on lower door anyway, so im just saying too expect the worst , in case something like that happens , :biggrin_25524:
