So neatness cannot be written under that reg? I was always understanding that you could? Thanks for clarifying.

It's a catch-all violation that can be used if the officer doesn't like the way it looks. Legibility is part of it. If he/she can't read it, it cannot be fairly verified. Therefore, "form and manner" applies to neatness as well.

No it has to be legible. It's farther down on 395.8. I didn't post the entire 395.8 because of length. here's the section that says it has to be legible.

    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=395.8

    (2) Entries made by driver only. All entries relating to driver's duty status must be legible and in the driver's own handwriting

Interesting, what is the fine you receive for this infraction? Do you have to retain a lawyer and defend yourself if you feel the infraction is in error or unfair? Can this infraction deny you insurance coverage(required under penalty of law) therefore, resrtict possiblity of gainful employment with other agencies?

Don't want any form and manner violations go on EOBR's:biggrin_25519:

And no he probably doesn't, but then again he did not violate a regulation set forth in the federal register:biggrin_25522:

I had one of those consultants(you know the guy from out of town) say that the most common form and manner was mileage, followed by totaling which is why most logs now have that total printed for the driver. Because it's like way to hard to fill out a form correctly:biggrin_25523:

So, by not fully following the decree of filling out all required information on the report/ticket. The officer is somehow, exempt from the pre-ordained regulation? :biggrin_25522:

Is there a Federal Regulation mandating what information is required to be filled out by said Officer?

All that being said I consider form and manner the AZZHAT citation. Do not look or present yourself as one and you will not get one.
