Howdy fellers.
I was wondering if anyone on here has ever pulled a bull rack or maybe hauled hogs? I was wondering if there were any "bigger" companies that used co. drivers to haul cattle, or if they were mostly owner/ops.
I've been looking for a job, and I have decided on Heartland Express if I go for traditional trucking (I consider livestock a little out of the norm), but the thought just hit me today, why not a bull rack? If I could find a company close enough to get me home some and could show me the ropes, that'd be great. I've already got 3 years experience, no accidents, no tickets. Ideal candidate. I don't mind working hard, and I have plenty of experience around cattle and hogs.
Just thought I'd pick your brains a little bit. Hopefully I'll learn something. Its something I've always wanted to do to boot. I think it would be a great experience.
Have a good 'un.

You can read up on some of my responses here:

Hope it helps. PM me with any questions. Most bullhaulers are independants. There are not many companies in the biz that own huge fleets of trucks. -
Thanks for the info. Real informative. Still don't know if there are any companies hiring drivers (or any in this area). I know there aren't any super-fleets of bull haulers, but I'm thinking "fleet" of 8-12 trucks or something. I think it would be interesting. Definitely have some stories to tell in the future.
If anyone knows of anything, let me know... -
Pulling bull rack requires consideration for the animals and yourself. It is often a long trip in which you can make very minimal stops. No truck stop trashing around eating supper for a couple hours stuff like that. Now after words its your time. Sometimes you have to get up in the trailer with 1400, 1500 lb. steers. They kick high, hard and quick and don't care what they hit. Hogs are another thing....180 plus fat hogs that don't want to come off on there own. So, you have to get in there with them with your board and other means of " GET THE HECK OUTTA HERE TOOLS". They will pile up on top of each other trying to get away from you. It is sometimes demanding hot work. Then you have to wash-out trailer. Bring extra clothes always. Your log book will look like a toddlers scribble pad, your eyes will look like your drunk and you will still feel proud because you are one of the few drivers that can do this job. It is a test of skill for backing down 500 ft driveways around curves and so on. All in all, its fun, i love it. Good luck and don't let this scare you, but its the truth. Never doubt your ability to do a job, because you will fail.
