dont think its because hes wanting to keep you around for company. It might be his way of making sure your prepared. because honestly think about it. Hes a trainer. When hes done with you hes going to get another person so wanting company isnt the reason. Maybe he does like you and you know your stuff and he wants to enjoy your company around because you do stuff right and everything instead of just getting an idiot behind the wheel and having a hard time training someone who thinks they know everything after 2 hours of being behind the wheel for the first time.
Anyways im not trying to be a Arse or anything but dont assume anything. if you really have an issue about wanting to get behind the wheel of your own truck maybe you should talk to him and find out why hes taking his time with you. That way you can find out what is really going on. And if you find out hes keeping you for just the company then maybe you should talk with him and work out a deal.

Just finished my first solo run, well almost, I am here in UT waiting for my appointment at 5:00 am tomorrow. Had to drop another driver off in St. George so took the round about to Corinne but made it just fine. I do like the company and your right every company has problems here and there. I don't mind taking the crappy loads either I'm new so not expecting the cream of the crop. As long as I get miles then I'm good. The way I see it if I keep on saying sure I'll do that for you then after a few years under my belt they will be rewarded. Haven't backed into anything at the truck stops although my first stop I got out of the truck 10 times to look around. Other drivers were just looking at me and talking I would just smile and wave. I'm more concerend about keeping my career then I am about what they think. After I drop off the load I head to WVC to drop off this truck and get my own. Yeah then I can acctually unpack.

does central have a school like swift and cr england?

That is the best approach to take on backing up. When you pull into a truckstop or a shipper/ consignee just turn down the cb and G.O.A.L. as much as needed. NEVER let another driver influence you or your truck. You will get it in the hole when it is in the hole and others will have to wait. ALWAYS remember that it is YOUR license that is on the line and no one elses. When I was driving before there was many times i had to get out 10 plus times on a back just to make sure i was safe, but it helped keep my record clean. Keep up the good work and positive attitude and i look forward to joining you the driving world again. It will just keep getting better as you go forward and stay POSITIVE! The first 6 to 12 months are the hardest and then one day it just clicks. I didn't believe it myself when i started out but it is very much the truth. All of a sudden u will find yourself wanting the challenging Back and laughing about things that use to make you nervous. GOOD LUCK to everyone on here and I am loving this thread. HOPE I will be able to add some helpful info and advice.
Oh a little side note: looked up on Greyhound tonight the drive time to SLC from Conley and looks to be 1 day 18 hrs.... WOW! anyone who has ever rode a greyhound before KNOWS that is gonna be one adventurous long a#s trip
but its worth it to get back trucking. SO STOKED seems like CRS is gonna be a good choice excited to get some reefer exper added to my resume as well

yes they have one in salt lake city, ut (closest to your location) if you read this thread from the beginning it will go into detail as to what is involved in their training program.
-
umm why are you taking a bus from conley to SLC? They have a training program in Conley.
-
I wasx told the same thing and I live in Ga 2hrs from the terminal...1 wk in Conley then greyhound to SLC...so is that true or not?
-
Not sure if they still do it but you could just fly out to SLC and Central used to give you your bus money toward the plane ticket. My wife and I did it and they paid for the whole flight. Not sure if that was a team perk though. I seriously don't think I could handle riding a bus! This time of year plane tickets to SLC aren't that bad. Back in the day when Central first got going when changing hands from Simon, they used to shuttle newbies around with drivers. Maybe insurance won't let them do it now.
Love this thread guys! Brings back good memories! Sounds corny but I'm retired from trucking now and this is my only outlet! #### I miss it!!! -
Coming out of Florida I am being told the same thing. 3 days in Conley then bussed to SLC for the main training. It may be possible that GA has changed thier CDL laws or CRS has decided to run training from SLC and Fontana only ... either way I was emailed info showing SLC for 2-3 weeks then trainer for 5 weks.
I will have to look into this, a 42 hour bud ride is not appealing to me. I'd rather fly out and be able to relax in SLC for an extra day instead of that bus ride. -
not sure the reasoning all i know is i have been told by the recruiter i will be bus riding to conley, ga for 3 days and then all the people's there will then be getting on bus to SLC. I will then do a "refresher course" in SLC and 5 wks back with a trainer. Possibly a little shorter if he/she feels i am ready. I should be ready but i will not be counting on early discharge. I would prefer to not go thru all that, but that seems to be their program and what i need to go thru. Other options out there are SWIFT and I pride myself for not driving for them up to this point and I would like to keep it that way. Also CR England which is also at the bottom of the barrel. Really the only negative i can see is that they really dont have a true refresher course for us guys with experience. from what i was told we just go thru their cdl course at a discounted price which isn't a refresher program but it will be nice to get the muscle memory back before i go back with trainer. ALSo 5 weeks is a little overkill for someone with prior experience but i am not in charge of their program so i will just make the best of it and know it is still just a temporary thing and try to gain some positive's from it. I just need to get back in a truck and CRS is the best route to take to do that with a decent company so i will do what they need me to do to be allowed to do that. ALSo gonna do it with a smile on my face, anyone who has been a driver knows really that is all we can do in this profession, just take things lightly
