They set up a rental car for me,hotel, and had a truck ready for me when I got there, minus a few fix it's that I found and few more they found that I didn't.
The orientation started on Monday with usual paperwork, I was already able to bypass physical since I had two year with the long form faxed over prior to my arrival, also my urine and hair follicle test was sent before I got there(You give them the chain of custody #'s on the test receipts) test results are in before Thursday.
You stay at the Ramada Inn nice rooms with fridges and microwaves,in room safe(non smoking only),there are like three pools and a hot tub there or was it two pools and a hot tub(didn't bring trunks). There is a bar/grill downstairs(Big D's) it has decent food. The bar is where you will eat your breakfast(scrambled eggs, hash browns, mini muffins) its pretty much the same meal all week.
We had a bigger than normal class so we didn't get everybody's road test done(I jumped when teacher came in and asked who wanted to test!) last one of the day during five o'clock traffic but no issues except I drove an automatic for awhile before here, shifting(float) no problem just got locked out of gear on a rolling restart(13spd) had range up!!
Score what score there is no score that I could see Pass/Fail that's it. Mainly city driving 15/20 miles all together then your done, back er in and get out. Schneider has their way of hooking up to trailers(You will get a paper copy of how) I always use a flashlight anyway.
We got to check out are trucks in the morning tell them about any problems, make a list of issues. Then off to a room for a conference call with loan officer(4-5 of you in room) she helps you fill out all your paperwork and answers "ALL" your questions, then back to class for safety, safety, safety oh did I mention safety training, you will get a cool duffel bag with a tire tread depth gauge form the finance co.
Also they give you a brand new atlas(big one)non laminated but a very good one.
Tuesday different classroom start computer training(pro tread)those that are familiar with thatOthers it's videos and questions pretty basic.
Finish up paperwork on trucks get stuff fixed might go over to their main shop(Master Fleet) down the road for any major stuff. whoever didn't get to road test finished, you are graded on all your classroom work. Lunch is catered meat and potato style food cookies soda lemonade stuff like that. Wednesday tying up all loose ends on truck, paperwork etc...
Thursday virtual driving is cool but don't speed(brad)will blow you over with a 110mph gust of wind nuff saidYou will be on a skid pad(ice) when a brake locks up do what you can to save it(if you drove an auto push in clutch) lifting doesn't help trust me first time I went which first of group(no pre peek) I saw my trailer pass me!! not good second time no problem. One guy made it this far and was rejected due to previous co. saying something and he couldn't fix it
We then had a four hour class(those in choice program)first getting clearance to be on the board then getting pass codes, driver # your own password YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR OWN LAPTOP one guy did not and he about had to go to mileage He bought one from another driver(cheap) nice guyThen go get your truck go to BP get fuel I got the minimum since you pay for it out of first settlement it's for weighing purposes only I put in fifty gallons since I had a half tank already, then you go to scale(free)weigh your truck, I had 2 guys+me who I showed how to get there(gps )
stand on scale to make up for fuel weight
genius I know but you had to turn in your first trip by Saturday and mine was a 451 mile run that paid $774 to the truck so no more fuel needed for trip, I picked up Friday afternoon since I spent the rest of the time fueling, scaling, alignment check, get stuff in truck blah blah Thursday.
OK enough for now my hands are cramping will tell you though choose where you go wisely it may pay good going but coming back will be another story, it's not about MILES,MILES,MILES it's about revenue to the truck,MPG,weight and domino effect(go here to go here to go here..)
One calculation I did i went 3200 miles and made $4400 to the truck, I then did one for 2800 that paid 5400+ to the truck K cool have a great day.
