And the difference? Its the alphabet soup of regulations we put up with now.
Which, BTW, is a plug for Ray the Hood to take his politically-motivated HOS change and shove it where the sun don't shine.

You are correct. These new laws have little to do with safety and are more about control and money. If they wanted to do something about safety then they should be concentrating on 4 wheelers and educating the general public about how to deal with trucks and safety in general. Statistics do show a decline in trucks being involved in fatalities. There is absolutely NO evidence or statistics that demonstrate that having an electronic EOBR will reduce truck related accidents. Based upon the current statistics there is NO need to force anyone to purchase equipment to track drive time when we can do the same thing with paper and at a much less cost. There are those who stand to benefit greatly from selling these EOBR's and the mandatory monthly service fees. I might be less critical of this if there was actually evidence that an EOBR for the industry would reduce truck related accidents or make the road safer. This is a mandate that was put in place to reduce competition. I have spoken to both senators who proposed the legislation that would require these EOBR's. One said something about safety and the other stressed competition and having a level playing field. This is a way for larger carriers to control smaller carriers and to reduce competition. My question to anyone who wants these forced on an already over regulated industry is WHERE IS THE PROOF?Everett and virgil tatro Thank this. -
Right, GMan. They will not improve safety. I am using one now, but am dead set against any FMCSA mandate. I see some advantages in that it would be a little easier to beat the lawyer for the other side in a lawsuit, but not safety. For instance, I was perfectly legal by the EOBR, but I was tired and wanted to finish off the last 20 miles to go drop a trailer then take a nap. But I missed a turn off because I wasn't fully focused on the task at hand. That was relatively minor. What about some other idiot who kept at it because the EOBR said he was legal and he plowed into a median because he was asleep at the wheel? Nothing changes compared to paper.
If one wants to figure out the ones pushing this, it is as simple as looking up the Alliance for Driver Safety and Security. A lobbying front organization put together by Schneider, Knight, US Xpress, Maverick, and JB Hunt for the sole purpose of mandating EOBR's. And with the ATA close behind. That sums it all up. It is a way for the Mega carriers to "level" the playing field. If they feel the need to do it (and they have that right and more power to them), the. By God, they think everyone should have to do it. This is so blatantly anti American it makes me sick that I served in the Army to protect those idiots. It goes against everything this country was built upon. Sad.Yodler and virgil tatro Thank this. -
I for the love of................
OK what precisely do EOBR's track that a log book doesn't.
Government should not mandate equipment???? Ever read the FMCSR's? Let's ee Brakes, Lights, Tires, fire extinguisher, an FMCSR book, an ERG(if hazmat carrier), DPF, Rims, ICC bumper, conspicuity tape, a ##### windshield and mirrors...........................
The friggin list is endless so please stop with that silly argument. It will be required equipment same as all those above, log books and drug tests are now........
Fact: Even the opponents of EOBR's are bragging accidents are down over the last decade. Fact all EOBRs do is track compliance with HOS!
So stop it. We are not going to do away with HOS or the changing technology to ensure compliance.
If people find the FMCSR requirements to onerous dont truck.Simple. -
dont look like we are going to have to use EOBRS
at least not for a very long time>.. way to go OOIDA...

Like I stated in an earlier post, I am on EOBR and it really isn't that big of deal for me. But I also am a Reconstructionist in my Constitutional reasoning, and Government mandating ANYTHING just rubs me raw. It just never seems to end. What is truly sad is how so many people just play roll over and never question government actions. But, then again, only a third of the people were for the American revolution. The rest would have been content to be ruled by England. Some things never change.
I sure wasted seven years of my life wearing a uniform and protecting something that very few people really wanted.Yodler Thanks this. -
Seriously way to go?????????
People already found to be causing accidents(the reason the got the #### review) and found to have serious violations of ghe HOS during a compliance review being placed on ELOGS is a bad thing? So we should just ignore the laws and those that break them?
By the way did you read the transcript or just OOIDA's spin on it?
Abuse of drivers my behind. -
