Hauled a OD load for the USFS out of the woods to another location the day before deer season. Had front pilot car for a 2 lane narrow road and those hunters would drive right by him just to meet me and go into the ditch with eyes wide open and dirt flying. It would of been humorous if it wasn't so Pathetic..............

How does the pilot car program work?
Do many get a random PILOT never worked with?
Is it a contracting agency employing random persons with a decent driving record?

The reason I ask, Many pilots on 19 when i become in range seem to never ever worked with the Operator of the OS.

Just my observation, None of my business, but dang seems like a meet and greet on the interstate that i just happen to over hear on 19.
always seems like a fresh meet up. HHAHAA

A lot of pilots are one time deals. Some companies that haul exclusive OD freight may have their own. We always had our permit girl arrange. In OK on 287 they have small office in house right at border. Stop and say hi and off you go. Only 60-70 miles across. On the other side we would normally just keep on and say adios.

    Shaggy Thanks this.

I'm impressed driver, you ran I-80 across Colorado and thru a tunnel. That was some impressive driving.

Don't worry, with a little practice, you may be able to do it too.

I think he was trying to call attention, in a polite way, to the fact that I-80 does NOT go through Colorado. Or at least it didn't the last time I was on it. I am pretty sure you meant to say I-70. And as far as the worst part of OS/OD is the 4 wheeler that hovers next to me so "little Johnny" can have a good look at the piece of machinery I am always hauling. Little do they know that if I have to move over quickly for some reason "little Johnny" is gonna be a goner. Most of the time most people are respectful, if for no other reason than to get away from the extremely bright flashing lights that I run, for just that reason.

I must have been half asleep when I wrote that. I apologize. You are correct, I did mean to say I-70. I agree that most people are courteous when it comes to over size loads. But, there are a few who don't seem to understand the danger they put themselves in when they get around over sized loads.
