the HOS are fine. They could probably use some tweaking. I don't see the 14 hour window as being that big of an issue. They allow you to split your sleeper, if you need to take advantage of that.

If you want a change you should argue there should only be two duty statuses. On Duty and Off Duty. Who gives a crap what you do on each status. Then you can fight for your pay to not be based on the mile and earn a $$/hr. That might actually make the roads a safer place. But then again good luck with that. They system aint perfect but it's what you got, live with it or leave it.

PS I can't vote because I don't fit any categories. I'm gonna start a poll of guys that don't like your poll.

In Canada we have a 16 our rule. No more than 14 hours on duty in a 24 hour period but you have 16 to do it in.

When you guys figure out that getting payed by the mile is your problem the log book wont matter half a much. We have company drivers knocking out 1200~1800 bucks a week running less than 2300 miles.

I can't judge the best reason for this proposal but a man ought to be able to determine how he arranges his 24 hours of the day and his hours of the week or whatever, to his own advantage and commitments, unless he is punching a time clock where he has to be on the spot. If there was an effective, attention-getting, strike for a -good- reason and my stuff was delayed, I would not complain about the truck driver. Truck drivers get crapped on a lot. Oh a few deserve it but most don't. The gooberment sticks its long and unwelcome tentacles into too many people's lives and pockets as it is.

The whole thing with the over-supervision, micromanagement, and nit-picking is ridiculous from my point of view because I am essentially in a similar position of being responsible for x being done on time, and for not making mistakes that cost a million dollars. Yet my boss (or the gummint) does not constantly lay out rule after rule designed to constrict and force me to work a certain way that might be inefficient for me but instead I am given the tools, room, and freedom to get the job done with a minimum of risk and a comfortable place to sleep when I decide it is time.

Truck driving goes beyond skilled labor, it is really more like a professional/salary position looking at the level of duties and responsibilities. Unfortunately the industry and the G-man have it twisted up and all set up for the companies and for revenue enhancement and for always making it someone else's fault.

So strike, I can go a few days more without some idiotic imported product (everything from outside Texas is "imported") and I got beans in the larder. Most people -like- truck drivers. Decent people do anyway. I wish the citizens would support a strike with a good attitude but you know what will happen - the companies and businesses will squeal and howl, and the media will spin it as unpatriotic or evil and the citizens will just believe that point of view.
News about a strike has to be spun from the truckers' point of view so it makes sense to the citizens or it will be to easy to condemn. example -It will be easily condemned if too many gas stations are empty for more than a day. The media will latch onto that. Just thinking from a political advantage point of view that non-essentials are better interrupted for a long time than things considered essential. So where is the union, to get on TV and spin it right?

Well just an opinion, no more no less.

Agreed, you don't need more miles or more hours to run, you need to be paid more for what you do run.

There has to be a check valve to keep the carriers in place and this is it. I might jack with the 70 some and if they handed me the keys, I would bump drive up to 12 in 14 and cap 60.

So you want to go on strike because being at work for 14 hours in a single day isn't enough? And some aren't happy with 70 hours in a week? Jeez, in the rest of the real world those numbers are almost double want a normal employee works. I think perhaps you need to focus on quality, as in how much you are earning, instead of quantity! Don't haul cheap freight.

You know it wouldn't matter if it was a 20 hr rule someone would want 21 so leave it as it is learn to plan better and stop worrying about hours and drive the truck. if you need a nap mid day take it and just plan for it.
