What is Swift's current mentor-trainee protocol?

will swift allow a married couple to team in a solo cab till a team cab is available or will they force us to wait to team together until a larger truck is available thanks Perri Lee

 

Sounds like you are projecting a little too far out. Your wife would have to train with someone else.

IMO they will probably fall all over themselves to make sure you get a decent sized truck as teams are a win-win for them. I was contemplating doing that with my GF except me training her. I kept my record clean so I could train her. She decided after riding with me for 3 weeks that she didn't want to drive for a living. By then I had decided OTR wasn't for me either. I just paid my dues and got a local gig.

 

They will let him train her if he and she want it that way. He would have to take the mentor class if he isn't one already, it would be on a one time basis. When my son considered driving we looked into it, then he had a few problems which prohibited him from driving. Also lots of husbands train their wives and or girlfriends. If you recall Texas Nana was trained by her husband. Again rug you talk without knowing of what you speak.

 

Tell me when did they start by-passing the 6 month experience requirement? You had to be there (as a new driver) 6 months. No preventables, service failures, log violations before you could take a student.

Yes, they do allow experienced new drivers to train with minimal time with the company.

The spouse can go right from his/her Mentor truck, into the Mentor class, then put the other half on as the student. For Husband/Wife, they have always waived the time requirement to Mentor the spouse!

I guess both of you speak of what you don't know...only what you have heard! Wasn't that the first course in the CDL training anyway?

 

They must figure if one can successfully mentor a spouse, they must be one heck of a mentor, no matter how much time is involved!

As for the first course in CDL training, it is reflected Rule #1 which is found deeply embedded in TheTruckersReport.com rules: "Speak gently or strongly of what you know, whether you know or not."

Makes sense, no?

 

So a rookie fresh off the mentor's truck can train their spouse? I find that hard to believe.


That is absolutely stupid if that is true. I would ask for proof, yet in reality it doesn't affect me.

 

If you go back and think about Texas Nana and her husband....when Nana started the academy in Phoenix, her husband was just about to finish up with his Mentor. Husband came back to Phoenix to attend the Mentor class, and Nana jumped on the truck that afternoon!

*You can't fail the Mentor class!*

Then about a week in....she was asking for some help and guidance of how to train a Mentor! LOL
