Alberta oilfield driving jobs

Big shortage of drivers in the Alberta oilpatch. Winch Tractor rate is around $40. an hour plus OT etc.​

People like Mullen, K&C, Flint, Northwell, ATK (Artie Kos), all of them are looking. Doesn't matter what area of the province want to move to.

Flint driver told me last week that he's been grossing well over $3,500. A WEEK for the last 2 months.​

 

Yeah I would like some info about that oil-fields.... or any secluded area that pays well because of that reason.. Like in Ontario I think it's James Bay or something they pay well and do the same sort of fly you in fly you out (to home) deal.....

The City Of Toronto is talking about contracting out so I am prepared that I may not have a job in the next couple years so my plan is do go to to Alberta to work (or northern Ontario).. I hear the work in Alberta is still booming and there is money to be made.. Short term or me (2-3 years) bank my money and then come back to Ontario to work a regular 8-10hr/day job and have all the money saved from the oil-field jobs....

There is a hiring agency out my way (Markham, Ont) that deals specifically with this.. It helps people get out to alberta with a job already set for you... Camp jobs are what they deal with mostly I think.. So I mean it's great.. Meals paid, fly in/out and your bed .. so all the money you make is profit... Now I have also heard some companies start out by flying you home but over time they start to make you pay or whatever....

I am qualified to operate machinery (backhoes, front end loaders, bulldozers, dump truck/trailer, skid steerer, grader, crane, forklift, excavator etc...) and drive a truck.. So I think my possibilities of making money would be good out there... Although I won't leave my government job to go work a short time in Alberta... Cause long term that is not a good choice.. Only if my job is contracted out will I go out west...

I have ambition so if I was to go out that way.. I would love to move up the ladder into the BIG machines or trucks.... Start off with the small equipment and work my way up to the big boy toys.. I love that stuff so I would work hard to earn my spot in a huge machine.. Make big money and operate big toys

 

CNRL (Canadian Natural Resources Ltd.) Have their own Boeing 737 that flies daily to Eastern Ccanada as far as the Maritimes for crew changes.

If you're an Operator, just get a hold of Operating Engineers Union local in your area.

I am from Ontario. I am currently working but for little pay. In my geographical area there are a lot of jobs driving but the pay is very low. It is hard to pay a mortgage on 14 or 16 dollars an hour and feed a family as well. You must work tons of hours to make a half decent cheque and of course one does not get any premium time until after 60 hours.

I am going west. There appear to be loads of good paying jobs out there. (Oil Patch) I have operated several types of vac trucks and am a TDGA specialist having handled and shipped some of the nastiest things on the planet. I have loads of safety training.

I was wondering if there are lots of "camp jobs" available as having to pay for a house/apartment would defeat my puposes in wanting to go. I am going to apply with Flint I think.

Yes there are camp jobs out there.. If I end up going out there that is exactly what I would be do.... Cause like you said if you go out to live there (buy or rent) it defeats the purpose of going out there as everything is big time expensive..

A few years ago I was going to go out there in the gravel pits and what not.... This job required you to have a trailer to place on site to live.. I thought that was a good gig cause you'd have your own personal place.. They ran hydro and water.. So your only expenses was the trailer (and a truck if you didn't have one)... If they needed you to go to another site then you would get in the truck/trailer and set up at another site.. (they had 4 sites within northern Alberta)

I don't know where you are in Ontario... But I know there is a hiring agency in Markham (Can't remember the name) that deals with people going to Alberta.. It deals with the camp jobs.. From what I gathered out of it your flights in and out would be either paid for by the company 100% , 1/2 paid by company and 1/2 paid by you or in some cases you has to pay 100%.. They had several different types of rotating working shifts.. Like 3 weeks on 1 off.. 1 week on weekend off etc.... Your meals were all paid for.. So you would have breakfast in the morning before going to work, they had prepackaged lunches and then after work you'd have dinner (all in one building of course)... Then you'd share I think 4-5 guys to a bunk house or whatever it is your sleep in....

I try to find out the information about this agency.. I looked it up months ago and just has slipped my mind as to what it was called...
