The feds were displeased with our compliance in this department... we have a macro to fill out since we went on elogs. If you don't do your inspection, you get a "dunning message" from the ivory tower now.

Like it or not, its the law to fill out the end-of-day inspection form.

IP, when I was there, they handed me a pad of inspection forms, 7 days per page. I had the devil of a time remembering to fill that confounded thing out. Never had a DOT ask for it.

Most guys that come thru my orientation get a look of bewilderment when I talk to them about the DVIR. That freaks me out, its a form everyone should be familiar with. Most people listen when I explain what needs to be done ans there is always one idiot that says its not their responsibility to check the trailer for issues. That guy usually wins an all expense paid trip on Greyhound back to where they came from.

They ditched whatever macro 45 used to be and redid it to be an electronic DVIR. Got hit on the compliance review for not being "compliant enough" (um... picture that one, eh!), and added and automatic "dunning notice" to zap you a reminder about 0900 Central every day.

On paper, you know they used to scan whether you had checked it off, n' signed. But on elogs, out of sight, out of mind until they show up for the big review. Heck... outside of my one run-in with a PA DOT guy in a rest area (very minor not big deal) I haven't talked to a bear about logs in a couple of years now.

Construction companies, landscapers, carpenters, mechanics and cops don't get paid to maintain their equipment. Yet, it's expected by their employers to fuction properly when they show up for work.

Our main tool, required to perform our jobs, is our trucks. Either maintain it, whether o/o or company, or you can't go anywhere. Can't make a paycheck sitting still, although some people seem to think they should.

Wow your life on the line in that truck and your whining about doing a proper pretrip???? Kind of shoots the entire self preservation and common sense argument in the buttocks right there.

Are you not liable and responsible for the vehicle you are operating? Whether you have signed an inspection report or not...
