I was told all you need is a truckstop and name and number of the store manager and you should be good to go. I already put in for it a few days a go. Hope to be going home this week:yes2557:, unfortunately I'm stuck in Raleigh, had to give my load to a relay, aircompressor won't shut off:biggrin_25510:. Hope to get it fixed tomorrow and then head south.

Might call your fleet manager, Michaels or Con-way Freight in Jacksonville might be options.
Make sure to get approval from Ops or safety before dropping trailer.

I found two places that I can drop secure, TA on I95 and CR210, the other is at my church, whick used to be the old Normandy Mall, it has a couple of empty docks I can back into, and a lot of the members are truckers, too, so no problem. Now to get my assigned truck ready, detailed, and I'm on my way!

Hey Witeboy07, can you tell me what your experience has been with your trainer? After reading about the problems vmaggs had with his trainer, I'm just wondering about yours. I have also started a new thread under the Con-way DAC report asking for new drivers impressions with their trainer/finisher. The hygiene issue vmaggs had is bad enough, but I'm more concerned about the temper issue. I don't respond well to being yelled at - that's not how I learn.

If your finisher and you get into it :biggrin_25516:just take a breather, agree to disagree and you will realize your fighting like a married couple:biggrin_2559: , but if it looks like you gonna come to blows try diffusing the situation then call Sally. Now Sally knows your calling her because the two of you are fighting like a married couple:biggrin_25525:..... You see where I'm going with this? You just have to do it, no matter how you cut it being stuck in a box with a complete stranger for three weeks sucks but when it's over you'll be able to laugh it off and will probably have made a friend.

LOL, I'll make sure I get Sally's phone number before I hit the road!

Got a couple of questions on this trainer issue: Did you and the trainer team drive or was it 'true' training where you drove and he sat in the jump seat? I know with some (probably, most) companies the incentive to be a trainer is just to get a co-driver in order to up the miles and there isn't much actual training going on and most of the time the student is driving the 'trainer' is in the sack.

I'm also assuming that the trucks are equipped with bunks? Don't really want to share a bed with somebody! :biggrin_25513:

No team driving, finishers are not desperate lease operators like alot of the other coolie carriers. They are well compensated and are there to ensure you will be able to make it solo.

As for the bunk issue, you will sleep with your duffle bag so pack light:biggrin_2559:

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to let us know their experiences with bootcamp, with trainer/finishers, and getting your own truck. I take my CDL driving test on Wednesday and then will be flying into Joplin on Sunday September 25. It sounds like bootcamp is a great learning experience. I have been lucky that I was the only one in my class in truck driving school, so I have had the advantage of driving time that other people do not normally get through their school. My instructors are going to take Thursday and Friday to work on my 45 and 90 degree back so I will at least have an idea of how to do those.

I am very excited about starting with Con-Way. A big thank you to the Con-Way Truckload driver at the Love's truck stop in Waller, Texas on 09/13 who took time out of his busy schedule to answer my questions. You were the one who helped me make the final decision. Some day I hope to be able to buy you at least a cup of coffee.

Anyone starting boot camp on Monday 09/26? Any other advice that anyone can give would be very welcoming.

    vmaggs Thanks this.
