I may never do this but wanted to get your input as it could be financially beneficial. I am a very clean person so the reason I do not have a roommate now is because it is rare to find someone who isn't a complete slob. It doesn't matter where they grew up, their income, education, there are slobs in all different shapes and forms. I even had rich friends, one was a stay at home mom with a maid and their mansion was still trashed with junk everywhere.

When I am at home though I just stay in my master bedroom, I hardly go into the other bedrooms. So if I love OTR, I was thinking about buying lockable doorknobs for the bedrooms and rent one room out to a clean, non-smoker, no pets (cat is ok), respectable woman (oh yeah, who will never block my garage door for when I get home). I wonder how rare that is to find one like that? Even if she is clean she may have a million family members or friends who will come by and trash the place. I plan to make these rules really clear though.

I just wanted to get your input in case you have experience with this. If I am never going to be home I might as well make more money out of it. This isn't my dream home since I feel it is further from the interstate and the neighbors are too close. In this city of Nashville you need the interstate to get everywhere. So I want to keep this house really clean for when I sell it.

I am not a trucker yet but I have rented a room out before due to me working and being out all the time, Buying a deadbolt for the room is a good idea and a small safe for those 'delicate' items and valuable items is a good idea as well.

Be 110% Up-Front with what you want and not want happen while your gone, If they can't handle the truth be gone with them. My roommate was going through Westwood College for his BA in I.T. so it was quiet and not the party type because he wanted to do something with his life.

(Always good to get a a colege/uni going type of person or a business type of person or heck even another OTR trucker)

    Hope this gives some insight

This is my own personal opinion. It may work for some people, but it is definitely not for me. I value my privacy too much. I dont want a stranger living in my home, whether Im home or not. Its just not for me.

Alot of people do it and it works great for them. But I have a tendency to see the bad in people and dont think I could ever trust a stranger in my home like that. You could find a respectable girl, sure, but dont think for a minute she wont have boyfriends over. Boyfriends who may drink, or do drugs. Who knows? Too many what ifs for me.

I would put that on the back burner until you have a good three or four months of driving behind you. I think you will find that will be a major headache while you are out on the road. Unless you really know the person very well and even at that it will stay be a pain in the butt. Like I said give yourself sometime out there driving before thinking about anything like that.

NewNash I have been thinking about doing the samething. I have a house I just bought like 2 years ago and im a clean person and want to find the same. It would be nice to find someone to just live in the house but also the extra income wouldnt be bad either. But like harvey said the what ifs :biggrin_25526:

I'll be moving in next week LOL Honestly I think it's a good idea if couple truckers stayed in a house together (as long as the rooms are big and the living room is big, and of course the truckers have to get along well)

Don't do it- unless it's on your route and you get home often to check it. You'll end up being an invisible landlord.

    Can you say "P-A-R-T-Y !!"

Harvey I am glad that I am not the only one it seems that even the really nice people have really dark sides. I thought my ex girlfriend was a sweetheart until she began cursing out her parents over tiny things and acting like a complete bytch to every person she came in contact with.
