how about sitting at 2147 s. loop 12 irving, tx (service road) and i save currernt location it save a spot ON LOOP 12 (the freeway)

i know NOW how to get around it but i shouldn't have to.

the way i found to get it to save where i want is to is to zoom the map to (100ft) then "set origen" on the spot i want to save then "save current location"

This has been fixed in the next version which is in Beta. It will save actual location. Currently going by lat/long their is some play in how it saves.

    Thanks,
    mark

Those would be models. Versions usually refer to software. Rand is always looking to improve in hardware and software. I cannot say what is in the future.

    Thanks,

My GPS is being shipped back to Rand with a request for a refund. If I don't get my money back I will file a small claims action based its failure to meet basic warranty of merchantability standards.

Why does my 4 year old Garmin automotive GPS do a consistently better job of routing me than my TND 510?

The TND is not a Car gps. A car GPS does not take into account, width, height, weight, length of trailer..

Why does Rand use trailer length to determine routes when every state I'm aware of uses overall combination lengths?

Staa routes by length of trailer. A single 48' or 53' is not a combination.

    NUMBER OF VEHICLES IN COMBINATION
21715. (a) No passenger vehicle, or any other motor vehicle under 4,000 pounds, shall tow more than one vehicle, except for a tow dolly. (b) No motor vehicle under 4,000 pounds unladen shall tow any vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds or more gross.
    465. A "passenger vehicle" is any motor vehicle, other than a motortruck, truck tractor, or a bus, as defined in Section 233, and used or maintained for the transportation of persons. The term "passenger vehicle" shall include a housecar.
    362. A "house car" is a motor vehicle originally designed, or permanently altered, and equipped for human habitation, or to which a camper has been permanently attached. ...
    410. A "motor truck" or "motortruck" is a motor vehicle designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property. (A pick up truck meets this definition.)

    EXCEPTIONS - STAA VEHICLES
35401.5. (a) A combination of vehicles consisting of a truck tractor and semitrailer, or of a truck tractor, semitrailer, and trailer may exceed the length limits (single-unit: 40-foot maximum; single-trailer: 65-foot; doubles: 65-foot or 75-foot maximum) on the National Network and Terminal Access routes (see routes at: "Truck Network Map"), provided that:

    (1) The length of the semitrailer in exclusive combination with a truck tractor does not exceed 48 feet. The semitrailer is not more than 53 feet in length, with two or more rear axles and a maximum 40-foot KPRA, or with a single axle and a maximum 38-foot KPRA. (For purposes of this paragraph, a motortruck used in combination with a semitrailer, when that combination of vehicles is engaged solely in the transportation of motor vehicles, camper units, or boats, is considered to be a truck tractor.)
    (2) For doubles, neither the semitrailer nor trailer exceeds 28 feet 6 inches.

My TND 510 has more faults than any other electronic device I have purchased in recent memory.

The TND is not a CB, Blue Ray player, TV, toaster, Microwave oven. It is a Truck navigation device and can be compared to only other truck navigation devices.

Then why doesn't Rand allow me to input the attributes that various states/municipalities actually use to determine which routes I am allowed to travel on? If I can't do that the device is useless.

Under truck tools/truck info you can input your attributes. If you wish to change your route you can drag the map around and add via points.

The main core is that other manufacturers devices have far fewer issues and thus require far less support.

Since I am on this forum a lot of users do post. Does that mean the TND is less than able? No, it means that the users come to the forum for support. Only one other navigation unit is even on this forum. We try to help the customers (you) as much as possible. I am not customer support. The driver (user) needs support no matter what time of day or day of the week. I try to fill that niche. You do not know the true issues of the Garmin, Cobra or any other navigation units. What is posted on the forums is not a true life indication.

I am sorry you are not happy with your purchase. You did have 30 days to do an exchange from where you bought it and most truck stops allow 7 days for a money back guarantee.

If you're TND does have hardware issue you are under warranty.

The TND or any other navigation device is simply a tool. You as the driver make the decision to take the route you want. The TND or any other truck navigation device uses what you set for attributes and tries to put you on truck legal routes. If this is not the way you wish to go, then simply change your route. It cannot be compared to a car GPS.

    Thanks,
    Mark

A general question about my TND510. When I bought it a couple of months ago, I used it in "truck" mode to drive from my house to work using the non-freeway roads I take so I could get used to the device--what the voice said, how far away from speed zone changes, and such. There is one road that I use that for some reason trucks are not authorized to use, even though many do, but all I have to do is click the red warning notice at the bottom and continue.

After a recent update, the same TND510 will not even plan a trip from my house to my workplace at all because it says there is no truck-legal route. I have not changed any of the "truck" parameters or the route. The only way I can get the unit to show any route at all is to change to the "car" function; then it works fine.

What might have happened? I am not unhappy; I just want to understand the workings in case I get in a situation where I have to drive a truck in a place like mine, as many other trucking companies do.

Give me the road and I can tell you the restriction.

If the TND is not routing you on this road and it is not legal why are you saying you are not happy it will not route you on a non-legal truck route in truck mode? The TND is doing what is supposed to do.

If it is a non-legal truck route and you are not making a local delivery you could be issued a ticket.

Just because trucks are on it does not make it truck legal. That is determined by local/state DOT. The road may not be thick enough to support the weight over x lbs. It may not be wide enough to support a 102" trailer. A lot of factors.

The TND is working the way it is supposed to do. Again give me the road info and Rand can give you the restriction.

    Thanks,
    Mark
