Volvo engines are not so bulletproof. More power and toasted exaust valves.. new D13 engines got many cyl. head issued. Wanna fix engine?

Never heard about exhaust valve problems. I drove to Spain and Portugal with 580 hp D12D and never lifted the pedal and never had any problems. Sometimes coolant temp raised to 115 C before fan kicked in, no problem, it's meant to do so.

may be becouse we use russian fuel with sulfur, but we had some D12D cyl. head issues and many D13 engines with toasted valves.

Ok, about D16G/H, 750HP version is available now. With SCR. And Volvo engeneers say they can easily build D16 E6 adding twin EGR

They spend a couple of days with the ECM, they now have 3 bar of boost, no smoke and they got rpm limiter up from stock 2150 to 2275. There's a lot of safety maps preventing rpm and power upping, needs more testing to delete them. No one has done this with Volvo D12C before so it won't be easy.

Yes and no, the main resin is WATER, D12 marine engines can pull in all the water it needs to cool the engine, more horse power more cooling you need.

It's not mine but a friend of mines. Don't know the serial number but I think it's year 2002 Euro 3 engine. I think you must find a spare ECM and send it to Finland to the guy who is working with it.

They had a first race last weekend, worked quite well, was very responsive, 3 bar boost almost immediately but still needs more development, especially more rpm to get wider power range. They estimated between 800-900 hp, propably going to dyno it this week.

The problem I have had with the FH16 engine in heavy haul is that the head overheats.
I have seen this many times and it is expensive to repair.
A simple fix we do here is to replace the undersized air filter with a 18 inch unit and remove the restrictive exhaust silencer and replace with a free flow unit.
This works great and improves response and fuel usage.

bad exaust valves and damaged head is the usual D16G problem, especially if driver keeps low engine speed with high torque
