I just heard from the Prime recruiter today, I am deciding on going with either Swift or Prime, what are the plus and minus's of both. I hope to get my permit this weekend. I will still need my CDL.
What are the out of pocket costs, both in training, and after training. besides food, do you pay for gas. I will be going as a company driver.
What are the home policies, truck taken home?, where can I take the off time at, where are their outposts.
I am completely new to driving a stick, any advice.
On the Prime, you dont get paid while out on the road, for the first month?
thats all I can think of right now, but will have more later.
Background, I spent the last 17 yrs working in the fast food industry. I am used to peoples b.s.
Do any of the companies have a outpost near Chicago?, Detroit or D.C.?, -
Your PSD phase you get a $200 advance every week to use for food. This comes out of your future paychecks at 25/paycheck.
If you are company. The only things you will pay for is yourself. Food/clothes/coffee and so on. Occasionally a shower if you don't swipe your card.
There are some things you pay for that they take out from your paycheck. This would be your CDL license, passport, and twic card. They take these out in increments on your paycheck.
You also pay for your Hazmat if you choose to get it.
You can bobtail home, you have to drop an empty trailer at a drop yard or get repowered.
Prime terminals are...
Springfield Missouri (main terminal)
Pittston Pennsylvania
Salt Lake City Utah
Denver Colorado
We have drop yards all over though.
After you get your CDL and get on a trainers truck, you are now a Prime employee. You make $600/week before taxes and things you are paying back.Big Mut, Everett and steadytruckin Thank this. -
at the Springfield MO, terminal,
what is the hotel situation, do you have to pay for it, -
After you get your CDL then you have to pay for rooms yourself. It's $25/night for a room with another person or $50/night for a single.
They do credit you $25/day if your truck is broke down though. -
Already have CDL and talked to recruiter today. I am undecided on Crete or Prime. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought she said I will get 600.00 a week while with Trainer for 30000 miles. Is this correct? Also, I am to go through oreintation in Pittston, PA will I be dispatched out of there and is this where I will pick up my truck after training?

You make $500/week for your first 10,000 miles. Then you get upgraded to the $600/week for the next 30,000. Your experience also makes a difference though. You might start higher up ala the $600/week and 30,000 miles.
Dispatch depends on where your fleet manager (dispatcher) is located. Most are in Springfield. You will pick your truck up in Springfield as you will have to go back here to do the upgrade class/sim test. -
Simm Test? Upgrade class?
