Yes they are nice Gypsy his had an 18 spd also, I just had a quick question to who may give me a better idea of 100% fuel surcharge passed to the IC,

well seems to me that would be .52 right? not .397 which is down right low since I'm sure JCT guys are getting .44 or better?

    My calculations price; $3.78 - $1.15 = $ 2.63 / 5mpg = .526 fuel surcharge right or wrong?

My buddy at Landstar is getting .55 so whats with the low fuel surcharge because its supposed to be 100% fuel surcharge passed on to the O/O, IC.

I know no matter what region your in it does not constitute a rate of .397 by any calculations but I could be wrong so let me know k TY

i believe schneider uses 6.5 mpg as their base line not 5 mpg and that may be the issue.

Hey LMB, no they do not pay dead head. I keep that to a minimum if I can.

I calculated their rate and it could be based(like tennman said) off of a 6.62mpg average which I think is kinda weird for a company to write their own "National Average" based off what they consider our average.

I am talking with a friend of mine in OOIDA and he will check into it and find the right agency or resource for more info:biggrin_25525:

the fuel surcharge schneider pays is based off their fleet average. i asked and was told it's based off the fleet average as all trucking companies are according to the source. the better the trucking companies fleet average the better tax breaks they receive at end of year. schneider bills the customers based off their fleet average it's a selling point they use to keep contracts thats why they stay on us company drivers for idle it kills the fleet average.

Oh OK I didn't know that, their ad says national average and so does the web site, and also the several people I talked to who were assuring me prices would be adjusted according to NATIONAL average.

So maybe that's why I was confused and getting greedy!!! :biggrin_25525: I just want to be sure about any information told to me to be true and correct I will be working harder on my MPG but with their "average" I would have to get almost 9.55 mpg to not pay for fuel. hee hee :smt067:Gas::biggrin_25514::Fuel expenses::biggrin_25514:

Fuel surcharge is based on a base fuel price, usually around $1.30 or so. It uses an average MPG. Most companies pick 6 MPG, but Schneider uses their own fleet average. And all of that is indexed to current fuel prices, which is calculated based on DOE averages. So all of the things you mentioned are figured in. Here is an example:

Company A figures their FSC with a base fuel price of $1.20 per gallon, 6 MPG, and the DOE US average. This week, it was $3.862. Subtract $1.20 base price, and you get $2.662 as the amount over the base price. This is the added cost that FSC is designed to offset. A truck that averages 6 MPG would need a FSC of $0.4437 to make the owner operator's average fuel cost come out to $1.20 per gallon.

Every company figures it differently. Schneider bases theirs off of their own fleet average, which is higher than most, and that tends to make their FSC lower than most.

Now, with all that being said, carriers normally charge their customers FSC at different rates. They may, or may not base it on DOE fuel averages. Most carriers don't have two customers paying FSC at the same rate, because it is negotiated along with the base rate. Some customers may pay 79 cents at the same time a different customer pays 39 cents to the same carrier. So if you truly get 100% of the FSC, it may be different on every load you haul.

Now that this issue is clear as mud, back to our show.

Hey sorry been awhile been running a long run 1400+ and getting some home time in.

Still going strong averaged 7.83 coming out of Colorado the other week(5800lbs) and yet haven't been to see the Diesel DR. yet or put my muffler on.

Last three loads didn't total 33k I took home 1750+ this week and had a weekend at home again!! My RPLM= $1.54 with the truck payment and all costs figured in, my fuel mileage is helping ALOT ;).

I still don't like the surcharge because I would like to not have to pay that much for my fuel like everyone else right. I have a load coming out of PA going to FL then from there to GA then to TX all under 19k lbs.

My old truck likes the light loads, I just got my PM done and put new mid marker lights on her one was taking on water, they are much brighter now. Still haven't mailed off the oil sample yet oops.

I will stick with this until I buy the truck and a trailer then see what my options are the loads need to pay more to keep me here I can get 72-75% at Landstar with my own trailer and also FSC is .51+ no fleet average!! ;)

My ex-trainer pulled a load two days ago paying $7.00 a mile 400 miles!!!!! You might not ever find that here. I'm just being honest that's all I figure if your going to be away from your family get as much as you can for your time and effort.

The fact is companies are trying everything to find drivers now, especially the good ones with clean records. Do your research what might be good for one might not be good for another.

I'm just building my experience and knowledge right now so when the time comes I will make more $$$$$ for MY time. Don't settle for base pay or lousy miles put your foot down because you are a skilled professional and they need you more than you think.

Be safe and take care out there kinda rambled a little but it's been awhile ;)

    The Challenger Thanks this.
