I should have rephrased that to "It's easy when it works, but when it doesn't work you wanna take a sledge hammer to it".

...in any case, I still prefer the simplicity and the easiness of paper logs. Never fails, as long as I know how to track my hrs, calculate, plan, do it right, it works every time.... :yes2557: :biggrin_25525:

Wish we had a Line 5, our company states there is no such thing as off duty/driving for things like running to Wal Mart or other necessary things you may want to do while on a reset. Truck moves you are driving. I once got hit for 15 minutes of driving while searching the lot for my preloaded trailer.

Otherwise I love using the elog, it saves me the hassle of making sure I am spelling the name of some indian city in Oklahoma correctly, and it calucates my hours for me which is useful when gaining hours back at midnight. And when I get a load that I can't deliver legally, I can just send a message to my FM and say "look at my Elog dummy". I have never had to stop 2 hours early though, maybe a hour just to play it safe if its 66 miles to the next truck stop/rest area.

3 times I had to stop over one hr earlier because it was getting late and I knew it would be hard to find a spot at the few places on the roads where I was. One time I could have driven to shipper and parked there for the night as they gave me authorization and I was going to p/up next day but I might run 5 mins over my 11... :biggrin_25510:

Do you drive for WERNER?(just wondering really)
FOr the sake of your argument,,your breaking down how on ELOGS you actually SAVE time(compared to paper) because on paper you only have 1 option for all that you explain 15 mins per duty change,SOOOOOOO ELOGS saves you time CORRECT:biggrin_2554:
Sort of makes your argument a mooot point wouldnt you say?

Dont understand why you go on duty for 7-10 mins to "Check In at a shipper?WHY?

ANd a word of advice for you on your pretrip,we just had a note from our Compliance Dept,we had a driver get a LEvel#1 insp in TX,,DOT saw where he has doing 4-5 min pretrips constantly,,,so he asked the driver to do a 4-5 min pretrip(to which he couldnt.) you might want to put a few extra mins on yours, just sayin.

Your frustrated and wel guess what ,,no matter how mad you get it wont change, that ELOG will still be staring right back at you,you either learn how to use it correctly or move on to the other side of the fence(grass usually greener I hear on that side:biggrin_25521:),,GOOD luck there hand

No, I don't work for Werner. Was going to but decided not to because they were using eletronic logs. :biggrin_25523: And now most big companies are using it.... :biggrin_25510:

Like I said some posts ago, I am saving a little bit more time than if I were doing the same on paper BECAUSE my fuel stops last no more than 5 mins, and my check-in at shipper no more than 10 mins.... But driving time, I'm not saving much anything and the disadvantage of not being able to go a few mins beyond my hrs is a turn off for me cause I always used almost all my hrs almost everyday.

Why my check-ins are 7 to 10 mins? To save time. I can say that I arrived at shipper, rushed to dock and went to sleeper. And it all took no more than 10 mins. After loaded, they sealed, gave me papers and I took off.

About Pre-trip, don't confuse that with PTI. PTI HAS to be at least 15 mins but Pre-Trip has to be at least 5 mins. No less than 5 mins, according to DOT. Sometimes I show 6 or 7 mins. Pre-trip is just a walkaround, checking lighs, beating on tires and overall appearance of truck. It doesn't take more than 5 mins. I do it everyday.

I know ELOg is here to stay...:biggrin_2557: and eventually even O/O will have to have it.:biggrin_25510:

I use it "correctly", at least according to Log Dept. I am doing "PERFECT"!! :biggrin_2559: And haven't had any violation since my 2 violations on the second day started using this box.... went 2 mins over 14 and 1 min over 11..... Now I know how to "fix" that if I need.... :biggrin_25525:

What about YOU, do you show a 15 min PTI after your driving? According to your post, you said you go straight from driving to sleeper berth.... really?? :biggrin_2556: And if you do your 15 min inspection in the morning, do you do a 5 min inspection after driving??? According to DOT, one is supposed to do 2 inspections, one before driving and one after.

Line changes less than 15 minutes don't get logged. They get flagged. A proper flag for a VI less than 15 minutes would look something like:

VI - Cedar Rapids, Iowa/8 minutes

Periodic VI's take less than 5 minutes, and look something like:

    TC, RC-8 - Des Moines, Iowa/4 minutes
