Hey guys I already have my CDL but haven't driven in two years and I'm thinking of coming back on the road with Prime, but I have a couple questions.

    1. I read on these forums that Prime doesn't offer a refresher course but when I talked to the recruiter she told me that they do but only the MO. location offered it. Now does Prime have a refresher or not? did the recruiter actually meant I would have to go through the whole training program? and if there is a refresher do I still have to sign the one year contract?

    2. I read that most of the prime trucks have APUs I am not too familiar on how they work, are they basically a mini generator? and what can they handle? can I plug in a George Foreman grill or a microwave? How about a mini fridge? will leaving the fridge plugged in while the truck isn't moving drain the batteries? Last truck I drove used to cut off power to non essential items if I sat around for more than a few hours (5-6 or more) unless I idled the truck for a little while.

    3. Do you guys run the north east a lot? How about NYC are there a lot of loads going or coming out of there? what percent of your loads are drop and hook opposed to live unloads?

Thank you in advance for any help I can get.

On the APU question it is a 2 cyl diesel motor that drives an alternator and ac/ heater. the inverter should handle a small microwave. There are other posts that have the wattage and i forget right now.

On the refresher. Your recruiter is the best source of info as things change often and quickly. The big thing is as a TNT driver you are expected to be able to drive, back and make the truck work. The trainer will help you fine tune those skills and teach you how to run freight Prime's way and paperwork. I know my other trainer had a nephew that drove for prime was gone to military came home and needed work. He went to springmo tested out on simulator and was good to go. But remember he was going with relative who is an instructor/trainer so ymmv.

As to the north east I can't answer as i drive all 48.

Thanks guys for answering all these questions. I start orientation on the 17th in Pittston. Really thinking about North East regional. Guess I'll make up my mind after I get close to finishing with trainer.

Sure there is. 3 day orientation. Then I go with Trainer for my 40000. Then go back to Pittston and get my Truck. I don't have to go to MO because I already have CDL and don't need that part of program.

No problem. I didn't know it either until recruiter told me. I thought it was great though since its only a 4 hour ride. I dreaded a bus ride to MO. and was ready to spring for a plane ticket.
