With all the Reg in place you better believe they can OOS a brand new truck... Heck, the Wisconsin DOT brags about it.
Here is the problem with regs... I wasn't refering to the HazMat guide book... as, they are required and everyone 'Knows' they need them in the truck...
I was refering to the Emergency response guide... not so readily available(current ones anyway). However, you don't actually HAVE to have this in the truck... as long as the BOL has an emergecy response number, and the material is coded on the BOL properly. At least that's what the reg's say....
But hey, that will not stop them from writing citations... They do have mouths to feed... Oh yeah, it's about safety.![]()

Cite the quote for Wisconsin please.
And I do not carry any haz-mat or emergency response guidebook in on or around my truck. Never so much as had anyone ask for one..........ever even when I had haz-mat and hauled it.
I still maintain there is a quite simple manner to avoid paying a fine. Don't violate a law -
It's common knowlege at a few scales in Wisconsin... you get pulled around back... you get a citation... period. (They WILL find something)
Case in point: Couple of years ago a close friend got a $175 fine for reflective tape on his dryvan was an inch to short in a few spots on top... Wisconsin DOT actually brought out a latter climbed up an measured it...wagon came from the factory like this... but hey... it's all about the saftey right?
Without having the emergency response guidebook and no emergency # and proper coding on the BOL(they use the response guidebook coding if the BOL has it on there... most do not)... You sir, would be violating the law.
I take it you have never run into a DOT HazMat specialist while hauling HazMat? Lucky... as they ask for the book...Last edited: Oct 8, 2011

I doubt the manufacturer cut the twelve inch pieces down, maybe but I doubt it. PACCAR in Denton if you take the tour(or watch how it is made) you will notice the strips are sitting precut to length in a bin. Since that is the only length requirement I know of I do not buy it.
Further you are required as a driver to inspect your vehicle. We have found bad slack adjusters on our brand new Stoughton's. Luckily our shop spotted them and pointed it out to the dealer whom called Stoughton who had recieved a bad lot from bendix I believe. The fact they were new did not relieve us from inspecting our vehicles compliance. So even though I consider some of the equipment rules silly they are published, you are required to be in compliance, you get the ticket when they are not.
Perhaps he was written for red/white/red instead of white/red/white on the tape(another popular trucker urban myth)
Don't do hazmat. I only pay for background checks that matter to me, somebodies load of fire extinguishers didn't make the list for my fourth background check in two months hence let them keep their crap. However when I used to haul hazmat I did carry one I even used the BOL to keep it on the appropriate page. Never once had a single officer ask to see it even in Florida during one of their "blitzes" for hazmat loads(or as I call them we are going to finally do our #### job days).
Of course I am not sure it is a requirement. Until recently I thought the little green book was required. That is not correct either. The only requirement is that you know it, and more specifically a company is supposed to ensure you know it so we get issued little green books. But you do not have to have one. A bit perplexing for the THP Officer I asked about it because he himself believed it to be a regulation when I asked. However when he followed up with me later he found the same situation our safety guy explained to me. Perhaps there is the same misconception with the guidebook. My suggestio would be to verify the rule, have the source of your info cited(eg:393.xx) and discuss it if ticketed. You would be surprised at the situations that can be rectified if you calmly discuss it with an officer. -
Or did I read this wrong?

Hopefully a couple of simple questions.
How long does a violation stay on your PSP? Is it the same as your license and/or CSA? I have a violation where I'm listed as the co-driver. I wasn't driving, so I wasn't fined or issued the summons, but it's still on my PSP, would that potentially count against me if a carrier looked at my PSP? The violation was cited in PA for a burnt out headlight (during the day at that), then on top of that he didn't have his medical card and his logbook wasn't current. -
By the way nice trouncing of those lizard pukes yesterday -
Sure it could be a machine malfuntion. Doesn't remove carriers or drivers inspection requirements.Kinda why I made the smart assed reference to red/white/red. I do not buy the story he received a ticket for it.
When we first started buying trucks some of our guy's got stopped in Cali for mud flap height. One of them was in the office going completely mental that friday telling everyone that someone better pay this GD ticket or he was out of there and would be suing the company, Peterbilt, PACCAR,the CHP............
One slight glitch to paying his ticket. There was not oneThere was a notation on an inspection report, no fine, citation, summons, nothing.
Some people make a story far more than it actually was to validate their fears. See the reason our guy was blustering so much is he also took a pay cut on that inspection for being noted log book not current. Probably the reason for his melt down but he couldn't complain about that. -
I did talk about this with my driver friend about this... Here is what we came up with.
Due to the way the trailer manufacurer did the reflective tape on the corners... It's possible that they cut down the tape(around a inch) so that the spacing would look completely symmetrical.
Any bets that the Wisconsin DOT might have knew this???
Is it about saftey? Certainly some stops are... but many are also about revenue for the state. Tazz fails to grasp this concept. -
