I remember job interviews being the easiest when I was 16 - 21. I guess it was because I was the young guy just starting out in the real world, people wanted to give me a chance. Now I am older and accomplished a lot I guess they see my resume as being overqualified and they rather have a robot that they can control? Anyway, any tips when speaking to the job interviewer for trucking? Do they ask those same questions about what I would do in such and such scenario and the reason why I would want to work for the company?
Should I wear a shirt and tie? For some reason every programming job interview I dressed up professional and everyone commented that they only wear jeans so I guess that is the new thing now.
Any threads about how to impress job interviewers?

Job interviews for me is usually a fresh haircut. clean blue jeans, new (or atleast new looking) boots and a nice button up shirt.
I dont think a shirt and tie is necessary for a trucking job interview. That is just my opinion. Id rather be overdressed then underdressed. -
This isn't cubicle work, so don't dress like an office worker. Dress like you could start driving the truck immediately. Collared shirt, clean jeans and boots are perfect.

Take a small pocket mirror with you into the interview. Every so often, pull it from your pocket and hold it under your nose for about 15 seconds, then peer closely at it from an oblique angle, looking for fog. This lets the interviewer know you don't have to be reminded to breathe. Just refrain from licking the mirror afterward and you should be fine.
Good luck to you!lostNfound Thanks this. -

It's very much a catch-22. If you don't lick the mirror and don't get hired...you should have licked the mirror. If you do lick the mirror and don't get hired...you shouldn't have licked the mirror.Injun Thanks this. -
I generally go in wearing sweatpants, flip fops and a Lynyrd Skynyrd T shirt....If I really want the job Ill even wear my fingerless gloves right there to the interview, and sometimes even a Cummins hat. I never shower before a job interview because if I did that just lets the employer know "This guys gonna be real needy. Gonna be whining cuz he cant get a shower every couple days." I let them know twice a month is more than enough to keep yourself clean.
For some reason, no jobs ever call me back:smt089Last edited: Oct 9, 2011

Be confident and ask questions. Questions work two fold. One, it shows details matter to you which paying attention to detail matters in any job, even flipping a burger. Two, it makes them feel like they are being interviewed as well and you're not going to take just any job which also comes off as confidence, even if you are just going to take any job. They don't need to know that though. I've never had a job where the interviewer asked me more questions than I asked them. I've gotten the job every single time I've been interviewed.
