They want to see some owner operator experience before they let you into Choice. Usually at least a year. Also, they require that you run mileage for one year when you are accepted on the Smart Start lease program. That is the one where you lease one of their old orange trucks with no money down and no credit check.

I have talked to SFI and been told they no longer lease the old Company trucks they are cash sell only that on the smart start lease you pick from a list (which she told me is updated every couple days) and on that list is everything from Volvo to Pete's and all in between depending on what's available. She said they all have apu's to help with fuel costs and also they're O/O spec'd. She did say first time O/O have to do mileage for a year (the term of the smart start lease). I was asking DayWalker cuz his profile says only 2 years exp. I've been at Schneider for 7+ years and like working for Schneider but i'm looking to maybe move in the direction of one day having my own authority but need the comfort of being familiar with a system when i start out. That's my reason for looking at Schneider to begin my journey to becoming an O/O.

They no longer lease the old company trucks? I didn't know that. They used to. My company truck was rare in that it had a deer catcher on it. I believe it used to run in Canada a lot. Most assumed I was leasing it and put the deer catcher on it myself. That thing made it a pain to open the hood.

I was told by Charlotte OC safety department, that they are putting glider kits on the old frames. Cheaper than a new truck

I don't know about Charlotte, but the Indy OC has a bunch of brand new KW T2000's. Most are orange, some are silver and some are white. They have been sitting there for almost two months. Drives me nuts, driving an old 2005 mid-roof with over a million miles, while brand new trucks sit and sit...

I would not have come over to Schneider unless I was on the Choice program had offers from other companies with bonuses and extra this and that so yes, I went straight to choice.

Don't let the 2 years fool ya ;)

The main reason I don't want to stay at Schneider and lease is because I would only qualify for the no credit check Smart Start which requires one year running their mileage program. I can't find too many people happy with that deal.

i'd say other than prime i don't know of any other percentage programs that are comparable to Schneider's Smart start. I did talk to a driver in west memphis last month who is on the mileage program and he seems to like it says he runs lots of miles but averages bring home a week 1500.00 and is out 15 days the home 2 then 15. He works harder by running more miles but he was happy with his money. said in december he can go choice but might just stay mileage. All his deadhead is paid also. so guess each one has it's advantages/disadvantages. best thing about staying with SNI is you already know the system

I have a buddy doing the Choice program now and he is always complaining about the load board being messed up. It will say like 18,000lbs and then get there and it's 43,000. It says live unload, so he takes his time getting there only to be told to drop it. He lolly gagged around for over 12 hours waiting for his " appt" time only to be told to drop.

Here latey they seem to be having "Landstar Syndrome." Tries to book a load but can't. Sits on hold for a long time cause he wants the load. Finds out load was booked over 4 hours ago but it is still on board and SNI has no idea why. He is about fed up with it.
