scania V8 in a f350

    My 06 KW was lucky to break 6mpg. The 99 International I'm running now gets 7.1mpg at 70mph with 3 times as many miles on it. And it has less squeaks and rattles than most any truck I've ever driven. The newer ones are all made of squeaky plastic panels with as few screws as possible to hold them together. Drove me nuts.

    it is not all. Older trucks run better on bad roads. Frames and axes are more tought. No silly weight reducing

    Yep, I understand you. Some examples from Europe. '2000 Actros is more reliable then 2011 Actros, MAN F2000 runs better TGA!

    Yep, there are things I love in new trucks, like ECAS, EBS, Disk Brakes (but of the last generation, and I do not like Haldex Calipers!)

    but problem is those old good trucks are extinct

    you cant find anymore f2000 in good condition

    Yeah. But pre emission US trucks are availeble.

    The other way some companies do now - rebuild old cabovers from USA and Europe. Here international 9600 and 9800 are beloved.

    I can only comment on what I know, scania has gone with egr on 6 cylinder engines, this has made them thirstier, a friends r480 does on average 8 - 9 mpg (euro mpg) but they have gone with scr on the v8's, currently the v8's are doing 10 mpg+ at full weight 97,000 lbs, that shouldnt be! the smaller engine should be better, my old 2001 420's without any of that crap on could do 11mpg. i dont know how the governments say they are more evvoirnmentally friendly if they use more fuel to achieve these air partical standards
    generally we don't have problems with rattles or squeaks , cabs here are all steel construction for safety (we've no hoods for protection) they are well screwed together and our cabs are on four point suspension keeping the cabs floating above the chassis so that helps alot

    do you know price for something from europe( i mean is the price too high since they need to change everything)

    i am more familiar with them

    but this days it is hard to find driver who would drive truck older than 7years

    and fuel consumption is very important thing

    interesting thing is now scania for brazil and south america is preparing conama p7 engines ( euro 5) all with scr

    i dont know is that egr such bad or they want to get cheaper solution ( i mean that they stay old engines not new )

    scr on 6 cyl engines aswell?. thats interesting scr is no problem, i just blocked off the feed pipe out of the adblue tank

    E5 stage I runs with SCR issues like E2, but.... E5 stage II derate power, EPA 2010 derate power and limit speed at 50mph. So with SCR problem truck can lipm to any workshop!
