    Hi all,

I am new to the trucking world but not new to living out of a back pack. If space is critical you just can't ever go wrong with the Jet Boil. It is VERY efficient and typically around $100.00 http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/63556?feat=69055-ppxs&dds=y

I found out that I can make dried food, MAREs, (Meals Almost Ready to Eat) that just need hot water to make ready. All you have to do is mix up the foods in zip lock bags and for neatness vacuum seal them together in a food saver type vacuum bag and wala...meals that just take minuets to make ready.

You can pack in all kinds of condiments as well into each meal which works well for back packing but in a truck you have room to store larger spices and utmost importantly...Hot Sauce :)

The choices are only limited by your immiganition...so if you have little this might not be the right route for you:biggrin_25524: BUT if you want to control what is going into your body then this is something to consider.

    Bestest to all

we have tried many of the appliances out there for cooking in the truck. when it comes right down to it, we all have a solution to the problem. as for the mares, misfit has had his fill of those when in the army. however, we do keep a few things that dont have to be cooked or heated in any way and are easy to throw together. im not always with him so i really try to make it as easy as possible.
its taken some time, but we have figured out the storage problem for the most part. it was just a try it and see how it works, and believe me we have come up with some creative solutions without having to spend a fortune in the stores.

Yepper...meals I choose to put together are one thing but ARMY MREs are all together a different thing. They are much higher in both sodium and calories, which are great if you are in a ground pounder in a war zone and are carrying near your body weight on your back :)

No matter what, this is a great thread to point out that there are alternatives to eating hamburgers every day.

Another great thing about the Jet Boil is mine has a French Press built in so I can make a great tasting cup o Joe quickly.

    Best to you

we just use a coffee pot from walmart. not expensive and does the job. all the ones we tried that plug into the cigarette lighter take an hour or more to brew a pot of coffee. we have a pot that has a timer on it so we just set it up the night before and its ready when we get up. i like having the coffee ready as soon as im up

What I need to find is a coffee pot we can have 'cooking' while we are moving... I team w/my husband and there are times we just don't stop except for fuel and bathroom breaks. If you have any idea where I can find something for that please let me know :D

I have found the coffee makers similar to the ones on aircraft or for boats on Ebay and at Amazon. As long as you have the power to run it in your truck the only issue would be mounting it so it wont fall.

P.S. Mr. Coffee and Black and Decker still make a under cabinet mount coffee maker. The carafe is glass not metal like the ones I mentioned above.

the coffee pots we have found dont have lids so it spills out while the truck is rolling. hamilton beach used to make one that has a lid. in fact it all brews in one tank. you just put your cup to the button and push. the coffee goes into your cup no problem. i just dont know if they still make them. will do some research
