No actually, well atleast back then, even other drivers in Cali with me would refuse NY, maybe out of habit I dont know. I know everytime I went in was a nightmare, mostly stemming from bad directions and bad areas. Hey we are all young and foolish at one time or another lol

Thanks Brickman I am in the process of applying to Watkins Shepherd now and was told solo, otr, van does run all over . There terminals are well spread out. Pay is kinda low, but hey I gotta have the change of scenery

WS claims first yr pay of $43,000. Please show me where else a first yr driver can make that. -
Joe
you might check out Quality Carriers. They'll train you on their tankers(think its about 5 days). The good thing is they are all over but each terminal is different so you can pick the one that suits you. Suggest you check out running %. Great part is ALL COMPANY LOADS NO BROKER. sometimes in ca you may have to sit but they pay well for it. bro in law runs ks-tx-ca-mo-nc-ks. good run for him. he stays out aslong as he wants then takes a week off. hope it helps. -

I got a break down from a Recruiter because they start you at .28 then to .30 after 6 mo. then .32 at 1 yr I think it was a penny a year after that. So I asked recruiter where the rest came from and it's in the xtra's, performance bonus, unload pay, layover, etc Also they figured in a $100.00 a mo. for tuition riembursement, if you paid the full $4,000.00 up front. So I am still interested, but also I have been accepted to Millis and they pay .2 more, but and a big but they only run east of the Mississippi which would make me feel regional or local. The recruiter for WS did guarantee (verbally) that I will run all 48. I also like the going straight to the truck without the 5-8 weeks with trainer, atleast for me, being that I already have experience. The school is 4 weeks then right to truck. If you don't need school, it's a 10 day then to the truck. If I decide to go Watkins Shepherd, which I most likely will, I will keep the forum informed of the experience, for any interested.
Thanks for info Raindancer -
Brickman do you know the industry average first year pay? Like I said my guess would be $34,000 to $38,000 after training and running solo. -
No I don't know what the industry "average" is. You could be right with your figures.

Howdy, I am a newer driver for W/S and have been kept running. The mileage is pretty close I have been running between 2500-3000 miles a week. Only on the west coast though. They do run east though and have lots of freight back east. I just talked to a driver last night that did a solo west to east then east to west last week so it happens but they do try to give those loads to teams. There is a fuel bonus which runs $100 a month or more if you use thier suggest fuel stops which are usaly Pilots, TA, Love or Flying J's so not bad. There is a $100.00 or so monthly safety bonus as well. They so a lot of staples runs which pay $25.00 a stop and usally there are 3-4 stops on a run. So it adds up pretty quickly. I am not sure what it will work out to be in the long run but it has been good for me so far. We also do pier 1 imports which pays $55.00 a stop. This is all had unload though so it kinda sucks. The staples aren't bad all you do is balance the pallets as they unload them.
I have enjoyed working at W/S and would recommend them.
