The first mexican carrier has crossed into the USA at laredo tx. The first truck entered the U.S. this morning hauling industrial product. This is the only carrier aprooved by the FMCSA to engage in commerce within all 48 states. A second carrier is now applying for a permit to operate under the FMCSA authority. Will this have an impact on american trucking jobs?

I don't think there will be enough Mexican drivers making there way up here to be noticeable, furthermore, they will be driving trucks that US carriers decided would cost more to keep operational and safe than was worth it, so they were sold to Mexicans. These are their problem now and I don't think they have the cash to keep these trucks running and safe to meet US standards and requirements. They are a very resourceful lot, I realize, but baling wire and duct tape will only get you so far. We can just hope they endure the same level of safety monitoring (and hassles) as we do.

No more so than Canadian drivers do. They bring a load in, they take a load out. Better than them me, as far as I'm concerned.

I hope it doesn't have an impact but I fear it will. We all know how greedy these companies who's crap we haul around this country are. If they can find a cheaper way to do it, you bet your bippy they will.

Guess we can thank Obama for this. I thought he was suppose to be about CREATING American jobs. I loathe politicians.

Fair enough... wouldn't surprise me a bit if he wanted it too. They are all powered by greed.
