Sorry, I stand corrected, as I said it was a "CONSERVATIVE" number not really meant to be 100% accurate....I think overall more people are happy with them then unhappy, again, my humble opinion.

You need proof and not just testimonials that Swift has screwed thousands of their former employees?
Thats like saying you need proof that Santa Claus is not a real guy who can dish out presents to millions of kids in 1 night.

 

130% turnover (if it really is that low), and more people are happy with them than unhappy? That must mean that even the happy people are quitting!

And if you look at the positive posts about Swift, they're pretty much all from the same three members of the forum. Nothing wrong with that, at least somebody likes 'em, but that turnover rate is still awful.

 

I agree that rate is terible but with the training company mentality I think that's what you get, I wonder how many get there and have no clue what they are in for and quit and bad mouth them, how many get on board, get some experience and jump ship, and honestly if I did drive for them I'm not sure I would come on to a forum and defend them! Every one that does gets slammed so.... I just think that the turnover is mostly noobs that get into trucking from something else and can't cut it.

And joeycool, yes even the happy ones leave for greener pastures, I work for a company where I am home much more then any of these "mega carriers" would allow, I worked up from being gone long periods to better jobs, better money and better home time, why wouldn't anyone else want that???

I agree with jlind...Swift, like the Big Huge Giant Orange Army, is quick to hire, with precious little vetting of applicants, and even less time educating people on what they're in for when they get into a truck to drive long haul. I think any of the companies that train are going to have a comparitively high turnover rate due to things like entry-level attrition (washouts after CDL school but during the "training" period) and severe culture shock on the part of the guy/gal who was used to flying a desk and realized that this is an awful lot like work.

There will, of course, always be malcontents who expected helicopters to fly over their homes and drop bags full of money as soon as they had the "Class A" on their licenses. These ones are going to ##### about the company and exaggerate the circumstances of their leaving to try and gain sympathy (to what end, I don't know...would YOU hire someone who spewed that much bovine sourced fertilizer?).

And you got your basic instigators who enjoy the relative anonymity of the Internet to distribute their diarrhea of the mouth with impunity.

Personally I don't think the megacarriers are that much worse than anyone else; their "problem children" are more visible because the percentages are applied to much greater numbers. If a 300-truck company has a 6% AQ (####### Quotient), then a 16,000-truck company with a 5% AQ is going to have a lot more "A's" on the road. The training mentality doesn't help much...some of the schools are just CDL mills churning out warm bodies to put into the meat grinder.

There are some who feel that modern CDL certification should require at least a year of training, perhaps two. Maybe an associates degree? Idunno. Wait, what were we talking about again?

Looking at the industry as a whole, you will find extremely high turnover rate among first year drivers.

Since Swift and other larger companies are known to be "training" companies, and knowing the fact that 80 to 90% of new drivers don't make it past their first year, you expect Swift to have a low turnover rate? Puh-leaze!

Gary7 is p***ed because he screwed up, had two preventable incidents and five service failures, then refused to go home when offered a load several times to get there because he knew he was finished. I believe (my own hunch not based on any inside information...but I'm sure I could find out if I ask the right person) Gary did something to the fuel in the company truck he was driving that clogged the filter. When the shop figured it out, he was given his walking papers on the spot.

The guy has such a low credibility rating with me that if he told me a fire ember was hot, I would have to touch it to make sure. He is on a sour grapes binge because Swift rightfully placed information on his DAC and now he can't find a company who will hire someone with his record....a record he earned fair and square.
