I just got my CDL about 2 weeks ago, and trucking school is just about over for me, now its time for my "Internship". Ive tried calling every single company on my area to see if I could get a local or regional gig without experience...that didn't happen so the only option I guess I have left is OTR. I wouldn't mind a second go at training, that isn't the problem I just don't want to spend 4 weeks or how ever long it takes with a trainer living together in a truck:biggrin_25513:. I can't stand the thought being in that close of quarters with someone for a couple days let alone for weeks!

So my question is: What are the companies out there that will accept current students that holds a CDL, and that have the shortest duration out with a trainer if any at all?

I'm with ya on that one! I went to work with a Drive away program moving Tractors for the most part. After a year, I tested with the owner of a small company, and Thank God! I never had to be out on the road with a Trainer!

Then you are bound for a rude awakening!
Your training now will teach you how to drive a truck. Sorry to disappoint you, but CDL school doesn't train you to drive a truck. They train you to get a license.
you can't learn what you need to know in a couple weeks.
If you think you can, do us all a favor and get a local delivery job driving a small strait truck.

I drove truck since I was... Well 14. Statute of Limitations is out on that one..... But Back then, It was the school of hard knocks. My dad hit me along side the head every time I screwed up..... I mean really hit me! We had no CDL's back then, It was a Farm permit first then, Chauffeurs license. I had a old 67 Mack Dump that I drove some and one day the Local State trooper told me it was time to get my CDL..... Went to work for Quality Drive away for the Experience need for the Insurance, then went to a small Trucking co. I drove truck better than the tester, Thus Not everyone needs to be with a trainer!

Your ability to drive doesn't mean squat if you can't perform other aspects of the job. Driving the truck is only half the battle.

This attitude is why students fail. Get in a trainers truck with this attitude and you're going to get a attitude adjustment, right before the trainer kicks you off their truck.

I met my trainer on Tuesday around noon.

Went to Fort Worth. He drove at night and backed into the dock.

Would not let me back into the dock for the back haul and then we delivered to Illinois.

I backed into that dock and got my truck on Thursday of the same week.

Man up! Going with a trainer is only going to be beneficial to you! Just wait till day one, 5pm at the Flyin J with a handful of spots left, you will be crying for a trainer! Or sitting atop Donner's Pass in January wondering how you are going to get down!

I too was just like you and opted to not go with a trainer. Worst mistake of my life! Luckily I ended up at another company cause I couldn't hack it out there with the first company cause I didn't go with a trainer and had no clue what I was doing. The second company was team driving and I ended up with a senior driver of the company who showed me the ropes. Difference was night and day! I learned more on day one with that guy then I did the whole time in school and on my own! Don't be that dummy out on the interstate that everyone is yelling at on the CB cause he doesn't know what he's doing! Man up and go with a trainer. Its 4 weeks of you 85 years of life!

Besides, I can almost guarantee you will have a good time out there with your trainer and be very glad you made that decision. Plus you will end up making more money more quickly instead of wondering around the country aimlessly trying to figure it all out.

Got to be CRST! Had one nearly mash me this morning in Dallas when he ran out of real estate. Freakin Moron and complete dumb arse!

To that driver...... you're supposed to use the middle peal on the floor when your lane ends, it's called a brake. And maybe when you grow up you will learn to look ahead and not get roped into a situation like that. Regardless ! You tried to make your problem, mine , and that's not how it works. Next time you're eating guard rail.

    Rant over....

Tmc, two weeks of orentation, five weeks with a trainer. Sixty angled backs in those five weeks. If your gonna flatbed, please go with a trainer to learn securement. I dont wanna be next to you if you have coils on the trailer without knowing how to secure them properly.
