In the real world, it is not possible axle a load that is only 20 lbs from the gross maximum unless you have a spread axle.

Other than being heavy on the trailer tandems, those loaders know how to max out a trailer, for sure !

Get up to about 20 MPH and slam on the brakes. Hauled many spuds that had to do this or the back up thing to move some weight around

Go to the truck stop and eat 20lbs worth of greasy food. Might as well make it an even 80k.

Seriously though, Id worry about getting the axles to scale legally before worrying about the bridge law. You may be over the bridge law a little but you are more likely to get caught being overweight.

What kind of trailer do you have ? I had a load of poultry meal on a hopper bottom once and was 400 lb. over at an IL scale . I had to shovel meal from the rear to front until I was legal .

I am seeing this about 12 hours after the post, I suspect that by this time you have returned the 60 miles to have the load moved forward.

As a suggestion, even after getting it moved, I would move your 5th wheel back 1 hole, that should move about 500 pounds back to your drives. Thus when you are at max on drives (34K), you will be at Max on steers.

Virginia is a 12/34/34=80 state at the 41 foot mark, so being 1680 over the tandems would require moving the tandem axle back about 4-5 holes (with 6 inch spacing holes), you indicate you are about at the 41 foot mark to the center of the tandem group from King Pin, moving back 4 holes is about 2 feet past the 41 foot limit, 5 holes is about 2ft-6in, Virginia watches for those things, however I have made the adjustment up to 2 feet back without mention from Virginia and other 41 foot states.

I wouldn't try being overweight or stretched out on I81 or SB I95 or NB I85 in Virginia at all, you will be on the end of a shovel and receive a citation as well.

Let us know what you did...

    Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. I moved the fifth wheel back 2 notches and the tandem back five to see what would happen. It came out to:

    Steer 12180
    Drive 33680
    Trailer 34120

Was as close as I could get it so called DM and told her I was heading back to get it shifted around. Also asked her if I could get fuel before going back because all this was only on half a tank. So filled up and went back and they moved some around and took some off. While I was there found out from another driver that there is another farm 5 miles down the road that will let you use thier scale so second time around was easier. Legal now and on my way.

Tazz, Ops85, Candlewood and 1 other person Thank this.
