Why do truckers park their rigs at the top of passes?

Usually, it's for a pit stop, you don't want to stop ascending the hill, so you stop at the top. Cooling the engine has nothing to do with it.

And you don't want to stop after the crown of the hill because it's somewhat difficult to see what's coming when you start to pull out.

BRAKE CHECK AREA! Why stop at the top when your engine just pulled a grade? It's hot! Keep rolling to cool the motor. Next.

All of the above! Good time to make a pitstop, and check brakes, and do a load check. And if the you have been moving for a while stretching your legs is always good too. The engines seem to cool off quick enough IMO.

I stop just to see how purrdy it is and remind myself of how much its gonna suck if I fell over the edge!
