Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

    ive said it before all you new drivers are clown

    Not nice lumping ALL new drivers into one group. Without new drivers this industry would just fade away. Unless you are imortal that is. That attitude is what needs to go away. You too were new once.

    Without new drivers U.S. Xpress , Schneider , Werner , and the like plus CDL mills would fade away . That would only improve the industry .
    I do agree all new drivers shouldn't be lumped together . About 10% of CDL mill graduates do become good drivers .
    The ones of us that were new once and are still out here were capable of learning to shift and back up within a week or two , not still stumbling all over ourselves 6 to 8 weeks after getting in a truck .

    This, Im afraid is the real reason for pushing elogs and EOBR's. Advertisers and big corporations would just love this info. They already get some info everytime you use your loyalty cards and in turn they give a little back. E-logs would give them just about everything else they need to know. Safety is the name of their crusade but thats how they get things passed into law and always have some other agenda they try to keep hidden. Your Company will probably start using mid trip inspections too and who did that really benefit? Me, sort of but it got more business for mechanics which in turn helps out their employers, the biggest person to benefit from it.

    Is your 10% a factual number backed up by research and statistics or just your opinion? If what you claim is true and you are truely concerned about the industry then what do you propose for getting new drivers into the industry that meet your standards?
    There are bad drivers out there both veteran and rookie. If you see someone struggle that could benefit from a tip, why not give them one. After all we all share the same roads and parking places. The name on the side of the truck and trailer are who signs our checks. ALL companies have both safe and unsafe drivers.

    My 10% came from many posts here by trainers and CDL mill graduates that kept up with fellow students . A USX driver recently said 20% don't make it past orientation .
    I recently posted Werner's quarterly report that said they have reduced their fleet by 1% . If they reduced their fleet where is the steady flow of trainees going through orientation going ? It's the same at the other large carriers .
    The failure of new drivers is equally the fault of CDL mills , the carriers , and the drivers themselves . Schools accept and award certificates to anyone and everyone . Have you ever heard of anyone failing at a CDL mill ? If they are going to take thousands of dollars for training they should do background checks and other qualifying checks equal to what carriers do . They should also admit some people just lack the perception or coordination to be a driver . Give those people a refund and send them on their way .
    There is probably no hope of carriers ever ending their abuse of trainees . Getting back to background checks if this was even done at a wannabe's expense before going to school as well as having a physical it would eliminate many unqualified people from going to the carrier and being rejected .
    Wannabes need to take the blinders off and get a reality check on the real world . If they try to go OTR with a training company they are only taking the place of another wannabe that didn't make it . Never mind the good attitude , good work ethic , positive you can be anything you set your mind to attitude . The others started that way .
    Go to the Welcome Wagon , go back 5 or 6 months , click members checking in then and click their most recent post . You won't find many still around .

    Now that was a good post Rick. I agree that alot more weeding could be done much earlier. It would benefit everyone. Except maybe the recruiters.:biggrin_25524:

    Three people failed during the "academy" at Swift. One quit outright. Out of the six that remained, there are only two of us still driving. One went to a different company, hauling garbage, one didn't make it off his mentor's truck (kicked out at a truck stop) one's ol man didn't want her OTR and one threw a temper tantrum and had to be excorted off property and the last one was fired for accidents and log violations.

    It's not just megas and CDL mills that have such a low success rate for first year drivers. It's industry wide. People do not know what they are getting into when they enter this industry.

    Well the childish jab aside* if technology bother you to that extreme perhaps you should invest in some tin foil. Wrap your head to form a bowl and remove, wrap your head again and place the first shape inverted on the second using a 16d nail driven into the skull to secure it. This will protect you from divulging the information you want kept secret.

    Yet again On Star requires you purchase the vehicle with it. You an individual make that choice. You the individual would have to make the choice to participate and give them that data.

    Yes I dislike my personal life observed. Probably why I choose to live in the hills. Pay cash or barter for most of my trading. I do not use the saver cards I see on everyones key chain. I do not sign up at the stores for special savings. And I do not request my insurance company monitor me for a lower rate.








    Now you could have used numerous examples. However since I could care less if you or anyone on this board thought or thinks I'm gay your effort is wasted. I would expect nothing less.

    I think alot of the exploitation comes from people letting themselves be put into that situation. It happens in other industries as well. Before you decide to enter into something that you have limited or no knowledge about you need to do your research. Not just on a particular company but on the field that you are looking at going into. This is a stand on your own two feet, self driven kind of career. If you strive in an environment of supervision and dictated decisions you will not make it. The Elog seems to be a good tool but like all technology it has many potential pitfalls and will require drivers to adapt.
