Was making a turn the other night and the steering wheel wouldn't turn on me. had to stop so I wouldn't run over the curb. I know that that can be caused by the fifth wheel not being greased enough but they greased it up pretty dang good about two three weeks ago. Also when I've been shifting into eighth gear lately and I take my foot off the accelerater sounds like the gears are grinding or something, it sounds kinda like when you run over those things in the road they put before stop signs and on the shoulder to wake you up. That's no good. Hope the transmissions okay.
Some questions.

Oh yeah just wonderin if anything else could cause steering problems. Will have to give the steering lingage a look at.

Steering problem: not a thing to do with 5th Wheel, check your oil level in your steering gear box, sounds dry or very low
Grinding noise??? well what kind or transmission are we talking about?Wargames and TruckerNate Thank this. -
It's a manual. I"ll give the gear box a look.

Sounds like when you run over those wake up strips on the road or whatever you call them, that's the best I can describe it. Only does it when I let off the throttle in eighth.

did you check the air assist steering system?
try the range selector -

Anytime you have a problem you stop when you can and try to find what's going on. Do it at a shop if one is nearby. The point is finding the problem before it causes you bigger problems. Start at the front and move to the rear. It could even be the trailer hitting the cab or something in the wheel well. The point is looking for what makes sense so don't start with the hard stuff first. The transmission would be my last choice. I'd look for some blockage of some kind when the tractor turns that far. Good luck.
TruckerNate Thanks this. -
i wunder if he had the wheel turned all the way?

check your belts, steering fluid levels.
Am I understanding you right? you were turning in EIGHTH gear and had to stop so not to hit the curb? How fast you going and maybe you're in too high a gear.TruckerNate Thanks this.
