How is it that SWIFT manages to wreck so many trucks?

Nooooo it's not. We're comparing adults to adults.

Both companies use BIG vehicles made of fiberglass, steel, and various other materials.

I can give a 10 year old an apple or an orange, without fear.

If Walmart was in the business of training brand new, CDL still warm to the touch rookie drivers, you would see a lot more Walmart trucks in collisions of all types.

If Swift only hired three plus year veteran drivers, this conversation would look a lot different.

I think she's talking about business models, not truck models.

My DM says "...yes, we're very serious about driver retention, we want to keep our current Swift drivers..."

WRONG: Any company that trains their own drivers, believe me, is not serious about driver retention....why should they be? All they have to do is just replace you with a new trainee.

Next job will be with a company that does not train their drivers.....then you "know" that they are serioius about driver retention.

The Bigger the company the less they pay so swift doent pay alot and therefore goes threw a lot of new drivers, "Students" which is what most of the OTR Drivers are. The revolving door of the trucking companies who have schools, or hire from trucking schools, have increased the odds of more crashes and made the roads more unsafe, and since the Govt doesnt want to give up any of its taxes it collects off the trucking industry, and Trucking companies are afraid to raise their prices-drivers can not make a living trucking. That is why we need a union which was desolved,Deregulated by my favorite president Ronald Reagan. God Bless you Ronnie. Anyway we need a union or a wage tsar in this country because there a far too many people working in this country who live and die without ever getting to feel /see what a piece of the American dream is. VERY SAD!

You know, Since I am going to school for Swift, I am very concerned. I have always been very good at anything I have tried. My number one goal for swift will be safety. I don't need to make that much money starting out, so if I can make $20k my first year and be totally safe. I will be happy. I respect other drivers and have seen some things that some drivers do as very unsafe (tailgating, speeding, swerving, etc.).

As a Swift wannabe driver, it is my intention to keep my nose clean, obey the rules and be the best driver I can be. Sure I have a lot to learn, but I plan on working on it and learning from people that I respect as drivers.

Everytime I drive to Kentucky from Plano, Texas the one company that I see tailgating and speeding is Fed Ex. I drove to Kentucky in September and it was rainging pretty hard through most of Arkansas but those Fed Ex trucks were FLYING like there's no tomorrow. I will be going for Thanksgiving and I'm sure I will see the same thing. I will try not to tailgate like they do. Imagine if a car stops all of a sudden and that FedEx truck is right behind them! Scary.
