one of the best places to stay and eat in west pa.,is off of i-79(ext141) custards,pa/meadville,pa small fuel stop with truck repairs.called somethin like granny annes.by far the best home cookin you can get!!!!! hands down!!!!! great portions i stop there everytime i go through there this place is awesome!!!!
some of the worst are: memphis, nashville, indy, gary, atlanta, dallas, rockwall,tx.(just depends)little rock,ar.,i try to never stay at rest stops if i dont have to!(just not safe)sometime shippers/recievers will let you stay at their facilities, but you should find out in advance if they are safe places to stay crime wise.just be safe know youre surroundings, dont trust strangers(you can pretty much tell, youre 6th sense)keep doors locked, air built up,i personally dont like to idle, cause i sleep better, and like to hear whats going on outside the truck.dont sleep with windows down,or vents opened!use youre head,be safe, and God Bless! -

Amongst my faves are Little America 80 in WY. A good local one is the 49'er, in West Sacramento - dynamite restaurant there.
I, too, could add my own horror stories re the T/A in Ontario, Ca. And don't even get me started on the dumpster-pit that seems to be all of the truck stops in West Memphis. Geez... between the lot lizards and drug dealers, I don't think I've ever managed a decent night's sleep there.
Another fave (though not technically a T/S) is at x199 on I-80 in Nebraska. It's a Dairy Queen with odd hours, good food, and a craters-of-the-moon dirt parking lot. If you're a team driver and really wanna tick off your sleeping partner, that place is your ticket. -

I'm not easily rattled by rough crowds but some truck stops do have dirtbaggy vibes to them. The Flying J's in Phoenix and West Memphis come to mind. So does the TA in Reno. Never had to stay in Ontario or Fontana though since my company has a terminal in LA so luckily i can just stay there.
In general I prefer to stay in smaller town venues where showers are cheap and parking is a non-issue. I stayed at the Texaco in Tonopah, NV last Saturday night. Just a few trucks in the parking lot, cheap shower and a neat little eating/drinking/gambling establishment Down the road within walking distance...nice.Last edited: Nov 13, 2011
