Got my truck Monday and first load right away to Oregon.. Truck is older but everything works and pretty well maintained as far as I can tell. Bit slow though on the hills.. It seems my trainers truck pulled a hell of a lot better on hills even when heavy.. :biggrin_2552:

No complaints, gets the job done.. and yes I name my trucks! Calling this one "Tank" ha!

Ok still a lot to learn! Couple major lessons this first week..

Always will double check the interior of trailer for now on when picking up an empty. The one I grabbed after dropping my first load in Albany OR. unbeknownst to me was leaking. Had no problem getting loaded for a short run to Toledo OR. But then had to get a load there from this drop to run back to Cali. They wouldn't load it because it was wet inside (they ship paper) and it would ruin the load. :biggrin_25512:

Ended up costing me a lot of time running back to Portland to get a new trailer. Sure I get paid the miles but the route up/back to Toledo is through back roads curvy and low speed limits when i could of been on my way to Cali already earning freeway miles. Now that led to burning my hours up and sitting to do a reset before delivering.. Ugh! poor planning on my part! learn by experience :biggrin_2553:

Note: when going to Georgia Pacific in Toledo OR. GPS routed me down Arcaida drive, that road is illegal for trucks .. keep going to business route 20 1/2 mile further down after turn to Arcaida ..that is the only way into the mill for trucks.. saw SNI driver getting a ticket going down that route the second day I was there ..

Yes but for some reason the navigo software keeps sending trucks down that road. OR DOT threatened to pull SNI's statewide authority if our trucks didn't stop going down that road. If you follow the SNI directions you get w/the fuel solution it will show the correct route. Always compare to see if the navigo gps and the sni directions match.

always check your route with your atlas against the gps. It will send you down restricted routes and low clearances, check and verify.

Always do a 100% check on an mt before you pick it up, there are some lazy drivers who will find a bad one and ignore it and leave the problem for another driver, and there are some drivers that will TBO a trailer just because it is older and they wanna take the new one with the cool wind deflectors, even tho there is nothing wrong with the old one.

Thanks jakecat for the tip! I agree, ended up TBO the trailer that leaked and picked up an old one .. It works and dosen't leak.

plus may I ad ...checked that trailer over real well, but when looking for leaks didn't know to look at the interior floor or check the walls for water.. it can easly go unoticed if you don't know to look for that. fyi for the new guys..

unfortunatly they are doing away with the sni directions. the other directions are a mess.

btw. when i leased on the first empty i went to pick up i opened the doors and there was literally no roof in the last four feet of the trailer. always check before pulling

My biggest problem with the directions(and the GPS for that matter) is that they name the street instead of using the number.

It says "turn left onto river road.....then go straight onto north high st.....then turn left onto oak st"

When all it really needed to say was "stay on SR 422"

I don't know why they can't put the actual street numbers in there, would make things a heck of a lot eaiser.
