Apparently, there are cheerleaders for just about anybody and anything on these forums. Neither Arrow or Boyd were terribly bad places to work as far as generic treatment and pay goes (if you didn't screw up/get hurt that is) and I quit before Arrow imploded. Believe it or not, there are/were just average trucking places to work, much better than Western Express from what I've heard, Boyd was better than Arrow, except that they kept on dealing with those Chicago tube arseholes and O'Neal steel and paid no detention. But from what I know, detention is a dirty word in flatbed industry, it's all on you. There is so much butt pain to "qualify" for a detention just to be followed "Customer didn't pay us, sorry" or "Here are your $14 for 14 hrs of sitting, that's all we could get from a customer, sorry".
It doesn't matter how you are paid, for whom you drive, short flatbed runs will suck life right out of you (if you want to make a reasonable paycheck, that is). No matter how you are paid, how long your runs are, for whom you drive, ... flatbedding offers much "better" chances to get hurt, to screw up you CDL, CSA, DAC. And all of that for 2-3 extra cpm (cancelled out by shorter miles and more work)? Flatbed drivers work and risk more for the same (or less) amount of $ as the rest of drivers out there. I don't really see how you can argue that. But I guess as long as flatbed companies can find outstanding folks as you are, they don't need to bother with anything.
I don't know in what flatbedding world this thread cheerleaders live, how many type of loads they were exposed to, but I had way too many loads that required 3+ hours of securing and tarping alone, not speaking of waiting and loading time. Sure, you can play with your luck/life/freedom and save an hour on those loads by doing lousy work, but if you want some peace of mind, there is no way around 3 hrs (it's not about your skills). I've seen plenty Roehl and Western Express trucks waiting and securing for hours right beside me. I "trained" and helped new Western Express (totally clueless) drivers in securing stuff, and with all that help it took them way more that 3 hrs to secure. I listened my share of sobbing stories of Western Express drivers about not being home, not being paid and treated as deepsh*t. And according to cheerleaders in this thread, none of them spends more than 2 hours at a shipper/consignee, unbelievable.

Flats on percentage is great. Customers For the most part with flatbedding treat you better than a typical grocery warehouse .

Krom stated his point. People disagreed. I don't think anyone will be changing anyone's mind anytime soon. Why not let it go and get on to more productive uses of time.
bigjoel, PitBullLuver and sweetdaddy915 Thank this. -
I forgot... What was this thread about.

I don't see Maverick treating their drivers with the most seniority the worst. I am in the top 300 on seniority and I am treated fairly. I average running 2300 to 2600 miles a week and home on weekends. -

Because he was never able to accomplish these things....He is unable to comprehend that they can be accomplished.
So now he sits around and attempts to tell those of us that have accomplished what he wasn't able to that it's impossible to accomplish it.diesel_weasel, sewerman, JimTheHut and 4 others Thank this. -

Sorry things are not working out for you at Maverick! I love it here....get good miles....and get home almost every weekend. Just got a brand new truck that is awesome! Don't know what else to say but "Good Luck"!

I've been with Maverick for nearly two years (regional flats), and I do pretty well here. It is what you make it, if you can't manage time, work slow, etc...your miles WILL suffer. Of course, there are weeks that will suck no matter what, but it's rare.
I run hard as hell, secure and tarp most loads pretty quickly, and I average 2300 a week this time of year, 2700ish when its busy. I've missed three weekends in the last six months, two by my own choice, because running on recap the next week wouldn't work to my satisfaction.
I'm by no means a company cheerleader, they have their issues, but they are good to me...and that's why I'm still here.
