When I purchased my TND700 I was very excited to finally get a GPS designed for trucks. It was not a easy thing to decide to spend that much money.
I must say I am very disapointed with my TND700. I have had it for almost a year. I failed the first time within a few weeks. I had to send it in to RM and they sent me a replacement. The replacement was a older model. This took several weeks. It failed again and they send me a card to reinstall the OS or some such thing. Again it too several weeks. In both situation customer service stunk.
My unit fails at least once per week, if not more frequently, in many different ways. Sometimes it just turns off, some times it comes up with an error message, some times it locks up when I push a button, some times when I'm driving it will just stop. It will appear to be working but it has stopped moving,
It frequently give routes that are neither the shortest or fastest. I notice this frequently in areaas I am familure with. I have no idea what it is doing in areas I'm not familure with.
The toll avoidance is a joke. I was in Danville NJ going to Vineland NJ. The toll avoidance wanted me to take 78 west into PA (toll crossing the Delaware River) to 81 outh to 83 south to 95 north (tolls in Maryland and Delaware on 95) back into NJ up the NJ Turnpike (toll) to route 322 east to 55 south to Vineland. First this is not avoiding tolls and it adds about 200 miles to a 120 mile trip.
As I said I am very disapointed. -
Average speed has worked twice since they added the feature. Routing is the same as it was when it came out two years ago (bad). Speeds are still inaccurate all over the place, and I know that's not part of the map update (one in two years while garmin is on its forth this year alone) because I've seen the speeds changed without updating the map.
The expand search for addresses that it can't find will find that address 1000 miles away from the one you want. I've never had it find the one I was looking for. It's still painfully slow and with the lack of detail on the map, there's no point in messing with it for ten minutes trying to find a point to manually set it to when you already have another gps set and ready to go. Especially when scrolling around on the map errors it out or locks it up just the same as its done since I got it 2 years ago. -
Send me your Navi/logs if you have an issue.
New Maps, many truck attributes and the way it routes since the maps have been revised and updated are different that what you may have on a TND. If you have a 510/710 then they are on the most current maps. If you have not bought the new maps, then what you may see in restrictions or routing will be different with the maps you may currently have.
"I had to send it in to RM and they sent me a replacement. The replacement was a older model"
You should get the same model as you turn in. If you do not then you need to advise me or Call customer Support to let them know. They should never go backwards on models.
"Speeds are still inaccurate all over the place" - are you on the most current Maps? I have mentioned before many times that speed limits are tied to the Maps. They do not update via the TND Dock. If you are not on the latest Maps then you do not have the latest data.
Other companies may do quarterly map updates, Rand does yearly. This may change in the future.
What version are you on? If you not on the most current version you may have issues that were in past versions and corrected.
All the info is there. Map version can be found on the TND Dock (with TND connected), top row, 3rd from left. Last line.
TND version - main screen/preferences/device/about - upper right.
TND logs - On the TND under Navi/logs.
With the above I have a starting point. I cannot cure lock-ups without having some basis to go on.
Thanks,
