I rember this out in north califorina, the old 76 had paid parking, tall chain link fence guard shack checked in everybody went by him, nice clean lot , very good resturant, then that one in onterio was same way, i sleep better in those, but i thought if you paid for fuel they would pay too park or was 15 a night, i tryed not too park at anytrucks stops if i can help it, unless i know i'm gonna set awhile for a load, i'll try too stay on the last drop , long as i can or unless i get permission from the boss too go too the truck stop, lot's time they load me right out of the same place, we have 2 big truckstops here Des Moines, half the time they sit almost empty, same way inside too, but id say instead of paying , swipe your point's magenet card bar and the big stick go up in the air , more fuel you buy more times you can park.just a thought :biggrin_25525:

If I'm dropping in Laredo and get there later than 5, I will use the pay lot at the TA. Not worth fighting over the free lots at the J or the Pilot. Hell, its bad enough in the morning at the J with all the hot rodders zooming through the parking lot while you're trying to back in. Last time I was about ready to slap somebody! Though I might swing through the Pilot in case an Idleair spot is open.

Sometimes, its worth it to stop an hour or so outside a city. The truckstops in Weatherford, TX are a nicer alternative than Dallas, same way with Eloy, AZ vs Phoenix. I can't believe how packed that J is at 9:30 in the morning!

Neither your shower nor your coffee nor parking were free. You already paid for them, just not at that Petro.

With all the over charging that TS do I think all parking should be free.

I'll agree with you, but the way I feel is if I don't take money out of my pocket it really isn't costing me anything. With the amount of fuel I purchase I always carry a 10 shower balance on my card. Right now I have 15 free drinks on it and a few other freebies. I did purchase the fuel and they elected to give me points to use at my discretion. I always have a monthly balance of 15,000 points on my card. I usually make a big purchase using my points this time of the year. On my way home I decided to buy the Rand McNally TND 510. After using $150 dollars worth of points the GPS unit cost me $150. If I didn't have those points I would have waited until I accumulated them. I've been at this racket a while and it's not that I am cheap, even though I am, it's just that I don't need to be raped on every purchase I make out on the road. I'm just very fortunate and grateful that I'm home every week and do most of if not all my purchasing in the stores around the house where I'm able to comparison shop.

There are so many Walmarts right off the big roads, if they put in fuel islands and truck parking they would put alot of truckstops out of business. Or they could just buyout a couple of the major truckstop chains, rebrand them Walstops, and give drivers credits and offer a shuttle to the closest Walmart for those items not sold in the truckstop. They already have 4 different size stores/retail location models, and soon....World Domination!!haha I hope Walmart execs don't read TTR.:biggrin_25524:
