Flying would be a dream come true for me. Was never the best in Algebra or Geometry so I figured my chances of that career were slim.

    Please don't ever say that....

With todays computerized navigation systems...and gps...navigation is easier than ever...

    This may sound silly...

But I wonder if even a automoble GPS is any good in the air??

Gone are the days of VOR navigation...although when starting out you'll be trained in it's usage incase your other instraments go out...

When I took lessons...this is what I had to use...

Based on magnetics...and or radio signal put out by VOR beacon...

    (I'm rusty...i forgot a lot)...

But what i'm saying is...when I soloed as a student...even though it was just VOR...I never used algebra or geometry...

it's good to know though...cause while taking lessons, instructor asks you to calculate your true speed based on how long it takes you to cover a certain distance on the ground...

Cause Knots is different than mph...cause in the air, you will almost always have head wind or tail wind or crosswinds of some sort...

So obviously if your flying at 100 mph...but have a 20 mph headwind...than your true speed is 80 knots....

and that's a simple one...but they drill you on that kind of stuff over and over...while trying to fly...

And it's how many fly by the wire pilots would run out of fuel...do to not being aware of knot speed vs ground speed...

But please don't sell yourself short like that...if you were meant to fly..than you were meant to fly...you can over come both algebra and geometry with a good tutor...

Please don't ever give up on your dreams...

I worked with a guy like that once. He was head of shipping by day, then ran terminal to terminal at night. He usually got about 2-3 hours sleep.

He made lots of money, until he fell over dead in the shower.

    LSAgentOZR Thanks this.
