You start the truck in a gear that will move the truck on level ground with no throttle. Don't slip the clutch or rev the engine up. That's the way I was taught many moons ago.

It depends a lot on the equipment. The T6 that I owned liked to start in 2nd gear empty and 1st loaded.
The truck I'm currently driving will start out just fine in 4th empty and 2nd or 3rd loaded depending on the incline etc.

As a driver it will only take a couple of tries to figure out where a truck will start out. Depends a lot on the axle ratios.

i've owned several ST pickups...rarely used 1st gear...only to haul or if starting on an incline...never had to replace a clutch...

drove a delivery box truck years ago the same way...1st if full or on incline, 2nd if empty...

...if it doesn't strain and you don't have to rev up the rpm's it shouldn't hurt it...

but you don't know me, so don't take my advice...ask your mechanic...:biggrin_25525:

...the pickup truck is a pickup truck...the delivery truck...it was a big truck...i didn't say i didn't know...i stated i drove without starting in first in both...in fact, it was in the delivery truck i learned to do that from an old driver...

what i said was: you don't know people here...if you are uncertain about things like that, you should talk to your shop's mechanic....that would be the smart move....:smt069
