QC requires Haz-Mat and TWIC so I have them, it's just another cost of operation to keep my dedicated run (tho I use neither on it)but I feel as G/Man said, it's just another racket for the politicians to dip their fat greedy fingers deeper into our pockets to pay for all their luxiouries they have (I know I spelled that worng LOL)

Before someone came up with the bright idea of the latest safety, security scam, those who needed to check us out could do it very easily by running our license and/or social security number. I still go to military facilities where they will run my license and social security number. That is all they need. In fact, it is all they ever needed. I read something a few months ago that someone has come up with yet another "National ID" card that they want to promote. I would just as soon we go back to the old chauffeaurs license. I can't see paying extra money for all the extra cards. None seem to give the government as much information on us as they want. I don't see a reason why the government needs to have all this information on us anyway. Unless someone is hauling high security products or top secret loads then I don't see why we need to have any additional background checks.

Guys one good thing is. Paying for background checks is tax deductable as long as your company doesn't pay for it. That is why some companies pay for it. Condo Crusier I have to disagree with you about hazmat being a waste of time for a company driver. While a company driver may haul 1 or 2 hazmat loads a year it beats sitting for an extra day or two in the middle of nowhere because the only load available is a hazmat load. Also Hazmat loads as a rule pays more. What I don't understand is if a driver has Hazmat why should he/she have to get a TWIC Card. The background check is basically the same. My thinking is a terrorist can do more damage with a hazmat load than going into a port to pick up a load of bananas or pineapples.
