I drive a roll off for a scrap steel company now. Roll off trucks are a tricky breed. All the same stuff posted above, customers can be crazy and have cans loaded way too heavy or way too high. Have to tarp my loads by hand, so very careful to not fall on loads. I've also driven super 18 (16 wheel truck with "strong arm" on rear) dump trucks hauling asphalt. A good spraying of diesel in the bed before loading under silo makes unloading much easier. Banging the gate wont hurt a thing, except if coming out if the paver and slowing down the line. All paving jobs I've been on had a "clean out" area, could bang gate there and spray down apron and gate there.

Most hot rock plants I've been to have a cat walk set up just before the silo where you can climb up on it and they have a soap gun so you can spray your bed down with soap. The soap works great and isn't a pollutant like diesel is.

The word good was used the sense of quality and not quantity. Those plants that have the cat walks are nice, I've even seen few that have an automatic sprayer you drive under. The soap from all those is good stuff. Rather expensive but I actually used cooking oil in my one gallon sprayer.

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions on this thread....it was actually a few months since I posted it and I almost forgot that I had started it,but the information was VERY useful.Just to fill you in on what's going on - I didn't really hear back from the guy and by the time I did I had already found a job driving 5 axle dump trucks for a while then I got a job offer from michigan driving double gravel trains and decided to take that up.They also do roll off so I'm hoping some time in the future after I prove myself with the doubles I can somewhat branch into it that way without having to make a job change. Thanks again for all the comments!
